Jarrett Jack to Hawks: Latest Contract Details, Comments and Reaction
The Atlanta Hawks and Jarrett Jack have reportedly agreed to a one-year deal, The Vertical's Shams Charania and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Chris Vivlamore reported Sunday.
Jack, who starred for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets before heading to the NBA, took to Twitter to share his excitement over his return to the city of Atlanta:
The 32-year-old appeared in 32 games for the Brooklyn Nets last year, averaging 12.8 points and 7.4 assists per game. He suffered a torn ACL in addition to a small tear in his meniscus in January, which ruled him out for the rest of the 2015-16 season.
Jack makes a lot of sense for the Hawks. Atlanta hitched its wagons to Dennis Schroder at the point when it dealt Jeff Teague to the Indiana Pacers in a three-team trade. While Schroder has flashed some nice potential, he is still unproven as an NBA starting point guard.
Signing Jack gives the Hawks a nice veteran presence behind the 22-year-old German on the depth chart. Not only can Jack provide scoring off the bench, but he can also help further Schroder's development on the court.
In June 2015, the San Jose Mercury News' Tim Kawakami listed Jack as one of the figures responsible for the Golden State Warriors' NBA title.
"One of Stephen Curry’s favorite teammates, which is all you really need to say, but I can add that Draymond Green and several other young Warriors took notes from the way Jack played and led," Kawakami wrote.
According to Charania, Jack will also be earning the veteran minimum, which makes this an even better signing for Atlanta.
The fact Jack shot 39.1 percent from the field and 30.4 percent from three-point range last season is somewhat concerning, but the Hawks won't be asking him to do too much as long as Schroder stays healthy.
