100th Open De France 2016: Leaderboard Scores, Prize Money Payouts

Timothy RappJul 3, 2016

Thongchai Jaidee cruised to victory at the 100th Open de France at Le Golf National in Guyancourt, France, on Sunday, shooting a final-round three-under 68.

Jaidee finished 11 under for the tournament, beating Francesco Molinari by four strokes and Rory McIlroy by five. He also got his son quite the birthday gift, per the European Tour on Twitter:

His victory built upon an already impressive legacy, per Justin Ray of the Golf Channel:

Coming into the day, Jaidee was just two strokes clear of McIlroy and Wang Jeunghun. But while he stayed hot, McIlroy could only manage to finish the day on par, and Jeunghun absolutely crumpled, shooting a 78.

Here's a look at the scoreboard and payouts:

Jaidee didn't waste much time, birdying the third hole before playing this lovely approach on No. 6 to set up his second birdie of the day:

Brilliant approaches were a theme Sunday, like this beauty on the No. 11:

By his birdie on No. 15, the win seemed to be a foregone conclusion:

In fact, Jaidee seemed likely to finish the day without a single bogey, completing a dominant round of golf that surpassed some of the biggest names in the sport.

He couldn't quite accomplish that feat, bogeying 18, but it hardly mattered:

Molinari surged up the leaderboard, meanwhile, shooting an impressive 66—the top score on the day. Rafa Cabrera-Bello surged into the top four with a final-round 67, while Martin Kaymer led a group of players who shot 68 on Sunday.

McIlroy battled the course, meanwhile, bogeying No. 3 in what seemed to be an ominous start for the Northern Irishman. He settled in from there, though he managed only one birdie Sunday on No. 14.

McIlroy has bigger fish to fry, however, with The Open Championship at Royal Troon Golf Club in Scotland beginning on Thursday, July 14. He will once again be one of the favorites for Europe's most prestigious tournament, a title he claimed in 2014.

He'll join a talented group of contenders, though, highlighted by Jordan Spieth, Jason Day and U.S. Open winner Dustin Johnson, among others.

Jaidee won't be among that group of projected winners. But if he plays like he did over the weekend, he'll certainly be a threat at Royal Troon.
