Seantavius Jones, Akeem Davis to Chiefs: Contract Details, Comments and Reaction

Danny WebsterJun 16, 2016

The Kansas City Chiefs have signed two young players they hope can provide some competition during training camp.

The team agreed to terms with former New Orleans Saints cornerback Akeem Davis, 26, and wide receiver Seantavius Jones, 23, on Thursday, according to Zac Jackson of Pro Football Talk.

Jones was a tryout player for the Chiefs during minicamp. A 6'3" receiver out of Valdosta State, he suited up for three games in New Orleans last season but did not record any receptions.

Terez Paylor of the Kansas City Star thinks Jones is a good signing because of his size and how he made some impressive plays in practice:

Davis has seen action for four different teams in his two-year career. He played on three teams last year alone, including the Saints. He played two games for the Saints, three for the Indianapolis Colts and one for the Seattle Seahawks.

He also appeared in 13 games for the Washington Redskins in 2014.

The Chiefs could always use weapons in the passing game alongside Jeremy Maclin and Travis Kelce. Jones is a project who has a lot of potential based on his 6'3" frame. A solid camp and preseason could land Jones a role as a red-zone target in head coach Andy Reid's offense.

Davis needs to find a permanent home, and Kansas City will give him that opportunity. He has primarily been used in nickel and dime coverages and can make plays in the backfield. With Sean Smith landing with the Oakland Raiders, that opens up one more cornerback spot for the Chiefs.
