WWE Money in the Bank 2016: Bold Predictions for PPV Showcase

Brad JonesJun 16, 2016

Money in the Bank 2016 emanates from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, and the event is poised to shake the very foundations of the WWE landscape.

The all-important MITB briefcase is now the quickest route up-and-coming wrestlers have at their disposal to claim the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Any of the six men involved in the namesake ladder match could feasibly be world champion by the end of the night.

However, that's not all that's at stake at the pay-per-view. With just two months to go until SummerSlam 2016, expect Sunday's show to have major repercussions that reverberate for the duration of the summer.

Here are some bold predictions ahead of Money in the Bank 2016.

The New Day Will Lose the WWE Tag Team Championships

1 of 3

After nearly 10 months with the belts, The New Day is now firmly established as the gold standard in the tag division—and that's exactly why its reign will come to an end this weekend.

At this point, holding the titles doesn't do anything to further the faction's relevance. Indeed, it would perhaps be better suited to chasing the belts rather than defending them.

Sunday's Fatal 4-Way stipulation means that the champions can be dethroned without being pinned or tapping out. That could spark a hot program between the former champs and the new team on top, or simply sow the seeds for a big SummerSlam match.

The biggest question is which team will be able to pip The New Day to the post. The popularity of Enzo Amore and Big Cass makes the NXT duo a likely prospect, and the stipulation would certainly ease the process of a pair of faces taking the belts for a fan favourite trio.

However, The Club has to be the dark horse to take the win. Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson make for a great tag team combo, and a big win could help legitimize the faction if any more members are set to join its ranks.

Finn Balor Will Make His Long-Awaited Debut

2 of 3

It seems like Finn Balor has been just about to make his main-roster debut for months now—but this weekend's pay-per-view seems like it could be the real deal.

Balor is no longer the NXT champion, and his rematch clause was put into action at Takeover last week. This week's developmental broadcast seemed to tease a match between The Demon and Shinsuke Nakamura, which is a big enough bout to occupy a spot on the TakeOver: Brooklyn card.

We've already seen NXT standouts do double duty on a big weekend of wrestling: Back in April, Sami Zayn performed back-to-back at TakeOver: Dallas and WrestleMania 32.

Balor could certainly do the same come August, but he's not likely to appear at SummerSlam without having made the jump to the main roster beforehand. With just two months left to go until the summer's biggest pay-per-view event, now is the time to pull the trigger on Balor making the jump.

It seems more than likely that Balor would interfere in the match between AJ Styles and John Cena if he does appear at Money in the Bank—but which side he'll be on remains to be seen.

Dean Ambrose Will Get Involved in the Main Event

3 of 3

This week's edition of Raw saw Ambrose Asylum descend into chaos, as the three men who made up The Shield came to blows.

However, it will only be Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns duking it out in the main event of Money in the Bank—unless a certain Lunatic Fringe decides to take matters into his own hands.

Dean Ambrose could add a measure of insanity to the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match simply by running down the ramp and attacking one or both of the competitors involved. However, his fans will likely be hoping to see a different sequence of events.

If Ambrose wins the Money in the Bank briefcase earlier in the night, there's the possibility of the long-awaited Shield Triple Threat match coming out of absolutely nowhere—not unlike the situation Rollins brought about at WrestleMania 31.

Given the lack of direction for Ambrose in recent months, it seems far-fetched to imagine that he'll claim the briefcase and cash it in over the course of the same pay-per-view. However, whether he wins or loses in the ladder match, it seems likely that Ambrose will make some kind of impact during the main event.
