Gary Kubiak Comments on Talib's Status
Tuesday, June 14
The Broncos head coach provided a rather encouraging update on Talib on Tuesday, saying, per James Palmer of NFL Network, "I think he's just weaning off of the crutches right now, if I'm right. Our goal is to have him ready for camp."
Talib made 15 starts for Denver during the 2015 campaign and was an integral part of one of the best defensive backfields in all of football, a unit that largely contributed to the team's Super Bowl 50 triumph.
The 30-year-old veteran made three interceptions, scored two defensive touchdowns and logged 45 combined tackles this past year.
His offseason nightclub altercation was cause for alarm for both his personal well-being and his value on the gridiron, but it appears as though disaster has been averted.
In light of Kubiak's comments, Talib may well be ready to hit the field for training camp in July. While Talib's recovery continues, 2014 first-round pick Bradley Roby will likely get valuable reps with the Broncos' No. 1 defense opposite Chris Harris Jr.
What makes Talib's return and level of play all the more important is the ongoing contract spat between Denver and superstar pass-rusher Von Miller. They have yet to reach an agreement on a long-term deal as Miller continues to work on a massive payday.
