Justin Morneau to White Sox: Latest Contract Details, Comments and Reaction
After sitting out the first two months of the season, veteran first baseman Justin Morneau signed with the Chicago White Sox on Thursday.
The team announced that it inked the 35-year-old former American League MVP to a one-year deal worth $1 million.
Immediately upon signing Morneau, Chicago placed him on the 15-day disabled list, as he continues to recover from offseason elbow surgery.

Following the signing, White Sox general manager Rick Hahn provided his expectations for when the Canadian will be ready to return to action:
Morneau hit .310 with three home runs and 15 RBI in 49 games with the Colorado Rockies last season after winning the National League batting title in 2014 at .319 to go along with 17 homers and 82 RBI.
The longtime Minnesota Twins standout is a four-time All-Star and can still be a potent lefty in the middle of the order when healthy.
Chris Rongey of 670 The Score believes Morneau is a worthwhile signing for the struggling Sox:
While Jose Abreu is a stalwart at first base, Chicago has had a hole at designated hitter all season long following the retirement of Adam LaRoche.
Avisail Garcia has been up and down in that role at .248 with five homers and 21 RBI, and there is a greater need for a left-handed power bat since the lineup is so righty heavy.
Morneau may not be the answer to stopping Chicago's recent slide in the standings, but if he provides production similar to the past couple of seasons when he returns, he will provide a new and needed dynamic to the lineup.
