Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson Comment on Win vs. Cavs in Game 2 of NBA Finals
Both Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry know the NBA Finals are far from over despite the Golden State Warriors' 2-0 series lead.
After the Warriors' 110-77 Game 2 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday, Curry noted his team still needs to take two more games in order to capture its second straight championship, via NBA TV:
"It's a trap to think we've got things figured out and we have the perfect formula to beat Cleveland," the two-time MVP said, per Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News.
Thompson added that he and his teammates will not get a warm reception at Quicken Loans Arena when the Finals move to Cleveland for Game 3 on Wednesday, per NBA on ESPN: "The fans in Cleveland aren't that nice, but that's all right. That's what makes it fun."
Thompson also threw in a subtle jab at his dad, Mychal, when the conversation shifted to the Warriors' place in NBA history. According to the Los Angeles Times' Mike Bresnahan, the shooting guard argued his team is better than the Showtime Los Angeles Lakers of the 1980s, on which his father played for five seasons.
The Charlotte Observer's Rick Bonnell wondered whether Curry would further the discussion:
A reporter did, however, ask Curry about his chances of winning Finals MVP honors, per the Bay Area News Group's Marcus Thompson:
Draymond Green is arguably in pole position for MVP honors. He posted a double-double (16 points, 11 rebounds) in Game 1 and led all scorers with 28 points in Game 2. No Warriors player has performed better than him over the course of the two games.
Of course, Golden State first has to close out the series before any individual awards are handed out. A victory in Game 3 would put the Warriors another step closer to affirming their greatness.
