Denzel Valentine NBA Combine 2016: Measurements, Analysis and Draft Projection
Denzel Valentine's journey to the NBA is officially underway.
The Michigan State Spartans star and this year's Associated Press Player of the Year took part in some drills for the NBA Draft Combine on Friday. Here's a rundown of his measurements and more.
| Height w/o Shoes | 6'4" |
| Height w/Shoes | 6'5.75" |
| Weight | 210 lbs |
| Wingspan | 6'10.75" |
| Standing Reach | 8'6" |
| Body Fat % | 9.2 |
Valentine did not take part in any shooting drills through the first two days, and it's undetermined whether he'll do so in the final two days in Chicago. He participated in agility and strength drills for the most part, and there's some good mixed with bad.
Of the players who participated in drills thus far, Valentine recorded the fourth-fastest lane agility time at 10.51 seconds. His shuttle run (3.22 seconds) and three-quarter sprint (3.46 seconds) rated among the bottom half of prospects at the combine.
Valentine's standing vertical leap was 27 inches, 11.5 inches fewer than the top mark, and his max vertical leap capped at 32 inches.
Valentine was not known as an athletic specimen at Michigan State, so those vertical numbers don't come as a surprise. It's his scoring and playmaking that make Valentine one of the better all-around prospects in the draft.
He averaged 19.2 points, 7.8 assists and 7.5 rebounds last season while shooting 44.4 percent from three-point range.
DraftExpress has Valentine going No. 16 to the Boston Celtics. While they're already stacked at shooting guard and small forward, Valentine would add much-needed shooting from the wing that Boston lacked in the playoffs this year.
“Everybody has their own different mock draft," Valentine said, per Kyle Austin of MLive.com. "I just want to be known as the best player after the draft.”
Valentine's draft stock could go up if he participates in shooting drills, but it's safe to expect him landing midway through the first round. His lack of athleticism may hurt, but the all-around game is too good to pass up.
