NBA Betting Preview: San Antonio Spurs vs. Oklahoma City Thunder Game 6 Odds

OddsShark.comMay 11, 2016

The Oklahoma City Thunder have the San Antonio Spurs on the ropes heading into Game 6 of their second-round NBA playoff series at home Thursday.

And for the fifth time in six games, the Spurs find themselves as the favorites, sitting as consensus two-point road chalk at sportsbooks monitored by Odds Shark.

San Antonio is on the verge of losing three in a row for the second time in a little more than a month after the team did not drop consecutive games until April 8.

The Spurs also failed to cover the spread seven straight times during that rough stretch toward the end of the regular season, and their uneven play has resurfaced at the worst possible moment, as another loss here will send them home for the year.

The Thunder pulled off a 95-91 upset victory as 7.5-point road dogs in Game 5 on Tuesday behind a series-high 35 points from Russell Westbrook, who had struggled in the previous four matchups.

Westbrook was averaging 22 points on 33 percent shooting until making 12 of 27 attempts (44.4 percent) in the latest meeting at San Antonio. He also grabbed 11 rebounds and dished out nine assists, which helped his team overlook his eight turnovers.

Kevin Durant added 23 points for Oklahoma City after scoring a series-best 41 in a 111-97 Game 4 win as a two-point home favorite on Sunday.

The most impressive thing about the Thunder’s performance in this series so far has been their ability to win low-scoring games. The under has cashed in three of the last four, according to the Odds Shark NBA Database, and Oklahoma City has won two of them, limiting San Antonio to 100 or less each time.

In fact, the Spurs have not scored more than 100 since routing the Thunder 124-92 as 6.5-point favorites in Game 1. That is one of the two games finishing over the total, with the other being Game 4. The under is 6-2 in the past eight meetings overall.

Another key factor is that San Antonio’s LaMarcus Aldridge has averaged just 21.3 points in the last three games after scoring 79 in the first two combined. Aldridge made a remarkable 33 of 44 shots (75 percent) in Games 1 and 2 but has hit only 22 of 60 (36.7 percent) in Games 3, 4 and 5, as Oklahoma City’s defense has held him in check.
