Tim Duncan Held Scoreless in Playoff Game for 1st Time in Career vs. Thunder
San Antonio Spurs forward Tim Duncan is showing signs of slowing down, as he finished scoreless Sunday night for the first time in his playoff career, according to SportsCenter.
The Spurs could have used some production from the legendary power forward, as they lost 111-97 in Game 4 of their second-round matchup against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The series is now tied at 2-2.
The 40-year-old five-time NBA champion has enjoyed an illustrious career, especially in the playoffs. Before Sunday's contest, Duncan was averaging 20.8 points and 11.5 rebounds per game in his postseason career, though he was averaging only 5.0 points and 5.3 rebounds in 20.6 minutes per contest in the 2016 playoffs.
ESPN.com's Tim MacMahon elaborated on Duncan's irrelevance in his team's second-round series:
Against a fast-paced, athletic team like Oklahoma City, Duncan has not been a great fit on the floor for San Antonio. He no longer has the agility to keep up with forwards such as Enes Kanter and Serge Ibaka or the physical strength to battle with Steven Adams in the post.
With Golden State and potentially Cleveland on the horizon if the Spurs can get past the Thunder, much of the same could await Duncan. He is now a role player, but his experience and leadership will still be valuable as San Antonio fights for another championship.
