Nick Blackwell Says He Will Retire from Boxing Following Chris Eubank Jr. Fight
Nick Blackwell has said his fight with Chris Eubank Jr. will be his last, as he continues his recuperation from the injuries suffered in the March 26 bout.
After taking many heavy shots during the middleweight contest, Blackwell suffered a bleed on the skull and was placed in an induced coma. He’s since been awoken and, after taking to social media to thank all those who have wished him well in his recovery, revealed he’s set to hang up his gloves:
Eubank Jr. also sent a message to the fighter on Twitter, to which Blackwell responded insisting there are “no hard feelings” for how the fight panned out.
The Oddschecker Twitter feed opted to remember one of Blackwell’s best moments after he posted the messages on social media:
Blackwell took some brutal punches in the bout against Eubank Jr., with his eye swelling noticeably as the fight moved on.
Chris Eubank Sr. actually stepped into the ring between the rounds to implore his son to shift his focus from the head to the body because his opponent was struggling.
“You're not going to take him out to the face, you're going to take him out to the body,” said the former middleweight champion, per Michael Kelleher of Sky Sports. The ringside doctor eventually called it off in Round 10 as a result of his injuries.

After the loss to Eubank Jr. Blackwell’s career record stands at 19 wins, four losses and a draw from 24 fights. It was a fight in which he lost the British middleweight title, an honour he picked up with a win over John Ryder in 2015 before going on to defend successfully on two more occasions.
