Seahawks Beat Patriots, Box Score Stats, Highlights for Drake Maye, JSN as Darnold, Brown Injured

It may have been a costly season-opening victory for the reigning Super Bowl champions, but it was a victory nonetheless.

The Seattle Seahawks defeated the New England Patriots 13-10 on Wednesday at Lumen Field, although there was plenty of concern from the home team as well considering quarterback Sam Darnold suffered a hip injury.

Drew Lock stepped up in his absence and found Jaxon Smith-Njigba for a critical touchdown in the fourth quarter before driving into field-goal range for what proved to be the winning kick. On the other side, Drake Maye threw three interceptions, the last of which was extremely ill-advised and picked by Josh Jobe in the end zone in the final seconds.

While New England was much closer to defeating Seattle than it was in the Super Bowl, it couldn't overcome Maye's mistakes.

Wednesday figured to be a night of celebration in Seattle as it raised its Super Bowl banner ahead of a rematch against a team it defeated with ease when the Lombardi Trophy was on the line.

However, it didn't take long for concern to take center stage.

Darnold suffered his injury on the home team's opening possession, which paved the way for Lock to take over under center.

It was obvious in the early going the backup was in the game.

Seattle had six first downs to four punts in a scoreless first half as Lock struggled to move the ball against a stout New England defense. On the other side, the Patriots offense didn't have to do much but did score the season's first touchdown when Maye found Eli Raridon for a two-yard score in the second quarter.

It was a pass interference drawn by New England's newest weapon, A.J. Brown., that set up the score, but he was lost for the game when he suffered an ankle injury early in the third quarter.

That wasn't the visitors' only concern, as Seattle finally got on the board with a field goal after an incredible catch by Cooper Kupp before Nehemiah Pritchett picked off Maye to swing momentum fully to the Seahawks' side despite a 10-3 deficit in the fourth quarter.

It was also only a matter of time before Smith-Njigba made his presence known, and the Ohio State product swung the game when he hauled in a short pass on 4th-and-1 and then exploded through New England's defense for a 45-yard touchdown to tie it.

From there, Romeo Doubs had a brutal drop before Maye threw another interception, this time to Julian Love. His second pick set up a go-ahead field goal for Seattle, although Lock's inability to convert ideal field position into a touchdown meant the Patriots were down just three.

That gave Maye the opportunity to be a hero, but he threw the game-clinching interception instead.
