John Wall Denies Report He 'Cursed Out' Randy Wittman, Wizards Teammates

Matt FitzgeraldApr 13, 2016

Washington Wizards point guard John Wall denied a report he "cursed out" head coach Randy Wittman and his teammates last week.

"I've never cussed my teammates out," Wall said Wednesday, per the Washington Post's Jorge Castillo.

Veteran reporter Peter Vecsey tweeted Wednesday that the apparent outburst from Wall occurred prior to Washington's playoff-elimination loss to the Detroit Pistons.

Vecsey had more to add about the dynamic between Wall, Wittman and general manager Ernie Grunfeld:

After making the conference semifinals in each of the previous two years, Wall and Co. won't be playing in the upcoming postseason. It'd be understandable if Wall was frustrated, but his alleged behavior as the face of the franchise isn't a good look.

ESPN.com's Brian Windhorst reported Monday on The Tony Kornheiser Show (via NBCSports.com's Sean Highkin) that the chances of Wittman being fired Thursday morning are "probably 99 percent."

The Wizards do have a magnificent, young backcourt with Wall and Bradley Beal, but the latter is often injured, and Wall has yet to push Washington deep into the playoffs.

In addition to the reported leadership change, Washington could use another big-time player to complement its two guards. Wall and Beal should be huge selling points for marquee free agents this summer, but missing the playoffs may hinder their chances of landing someone like Kevin Durant.

Buzz has surrounded Durant and Washington, his hometown team. But as someone seeking a championship, Durant may want to bet on another squad in light of what's happened with the Wizards in 2015-16.
