Draymond Green Says Michael Jordan Told Him to Break Bulls' Wins Record

Mike NorrisApr 10, 2016

The Golden State Warriors tied the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls with their 72nd victory of the season Sunday, a 92-86 win over the San Antonio Spurs, but they've faced plenty of criticism throughout the record-breaking campaign.

Many, including former Bulls players, thought if the Warriors could go back in time, they wouldn't stand a chance against the Bulls—a team that coincidentally included Golden State's head coach, Steve Kerr—per Zach Harper of CBS Sports.

However, Michael Jordan, the main reason for Chicago's victories, is apparently in favor of the Warriors breaking the record. Golden State power forward Draymond Green said Jordan told him the Warriors should do all they can to break the record, per Ethan Strauss of ESPN.com (via Harper).

"Mike told me at All-Star, 'Go win the record. Go get the record. If y'all don't win this record, I'm going to be hot, and I'm blaming you,'" Green said.

Jordan has six NBA championships and dozens of individual awards that he can hang his hat on. However, he was also one of the most competitive people in all of sports.

The Internet was full of Crying Jordan memes Sunday, which happened to be the same day this year's Bulls were eliminated from the playoffs in the regular season for the first time since 2008.

Former Grantland writer Jay Caspian Kang had one of the better versions:

Kerr, in the bottom-right corner, was the only one without the viral meme inserted over his face, but apparently Jordan didn't need one, either.

Green seemed to take Jordan's words to heart, as he entered Sunday's game with averages of 14.0 points, 9.6 rebounds and 7.4 assists per game and is second in the NBA with 13 triple-doubles this season.

Green, likely MVP Stephen Curry and the rest of the Warriors have one chance to break the Bulls' record at home Wednesday against the 42-38 Memphis Grizzlies.

Considering they just handed the Spurs their first home loss of the season and knocked off the Grizzlies on the road Saturday, Golden State looks primed to stand atop the all-time wins leaderboard Wednesday night.

Apparently, Jordan would be fine with that.
