Spurs Lose Consecutive Games for 1st Time Since February 2015

Bleacher Report MilestonesApr 9, 2016

The San Antonio Spurs lost Friday's game to the Denver Nuggets by a score of 102-98, marking the first time since February 2015 that San Antonio has dropped consecutive regular-season games, per Sportsnet Stats.

Previously, the Spurs lost 112-101 to the Golden State Warriors on Thursday, setting them up for further disappointment in the second game of a back-to-back on the road, as there was little question that some starters would be rested.

With the Spurs locked into the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference, center Tim Duncan was the only usual starter who played.

Making things even more difficult, the Spurs were playing for a third time in four days (all road games) and had to deal with the altitude in Denver.

Still, some observers may have been surprised to see San Antonio lose to a lottery-bound Nuggets team, as Gregg Popovich's crew has typically responded to its rare losses by putting up resounding victories in the following game.

The Spurs have also proved to be a tough team even when they rest starters, as has often happened over the past two or three seasons.

Though they hadn't lost consecutive regular-season contests in nearly 14 months, the Spurs did lose two straight games to the Los Angeles Clippers during the Western Conference playoffs last season, leading to a surprise early exit in the first round.

Also of interest, San Antonio actually lost four in a row the last time it dropped consecutive games, suffering through a rare losing streak from Feb. 19-25, 2015.
