NBA Betting Preview: San Antonio Spurs vs. Golden State Warriors Odds, Analysis

OddsShark.comApr 6, 2016

After going 54 home games without a loss during the regular season, the Golden State Warriors (69-9) cannot afford another setback if they are going to break the NBA wins record that the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls set, starting with Thursday’s matchup versus the San Antonio Spurs (65-12).

The Warriors are consensus six-point home favorites at sportsbooks monitored by Odds Shark and have beaten the Spurs once there this year.

Golden State plays San Antonio twice in its last four games, including a visit Sunday to the AT&T Center, where the Spurs are 39-0 this year. The Warriors lost, 87-79, in the last meeting as 4.5-point road underdogs on March 19, falling for the 33rd straight time at San Antonio during the regular season.

The Spurs were able to slow down the pace in holding Golden State to a season-low point total, with leading scorer Stephen Curry totaling only 14 points on 4-of-18 shooting, including 1-of-12 from three-point range.

Some Warriors along with head coach Steve Kerr have admitted to ESPN's Ethan Sherwood Strauss that trying to top Chicago’s 72-10 mark has taken a toll on the team. Golden State forward Draymond Green recently admitted to Strauss that he was “ready for the regular season to end” so he and his teammates can focus solely on winning their second consecutive championship.

They have lost two of three for the second time this year, going 3-7 against the spread in their last 10.

Meanwhile, San Antonio is riding a four-game winning streak into this matchup but has also struggled to cover lately. The Spurs have gone 1-5 ATS in their last six, covering just five of their previous 17 dating back to March 3, according to the Odds Shark NBA Database.

They are not facing nearly as much pressure as Golden State down the stretch, as both teams are pretty much cemented into the top two seeds in the Western Conference.

The Warriors would have to drop both meetings and at least one more game to potentially lose the No. 1 seed. But that would likely need to coincide with San Antonio winning out the rest of the way.

The teams have split the past four meetings both straight up and ATS, with each winning on their home court and the under going 4-0 for totals bettors.
