Warriors Tie Bulls' Record for Most Wins in NBA Season, Set New Road-Wins Mark

Timothy RappApr 10, 2016

Add two more accomplishments to the Golden State Warriors' record-breaking season.

On Sunday, the Warriors tied the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls for the most wins in a single season in NBA history with 72, defeating the San Antonio Spurs 92-86 at the AT&T Center.

Per ESPN Stats & Info, the Warriors also broke the NBA record for the most road wins in a single season (34), breaking the 1995-96 Bulls' mark.

After a huge win off a back-to-back, the reigning NBA champions have a shot at eclipsing the 1995-96 Bulls in the record books Wednesday, when they will face the Memphis Grizzlies.

The Spurs, who boasted a perfect 39-0 mark entering Sunday's game, were attempting to become the first team in NBA history to go 41-0 at home, but Golden State finally put a dent in that.

Head coach Steve Kerr's unique squad has made setting records a habit this season. The Dubs' 24 straight wins to open the season set an NBA record—and they weren't done there.

Golden State also set the record for the most consecutive home wins in NBA history, dating back to January 2015. Draymond Green became the first player in NBA history to record 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 500 assists, 100 steals and 100 blocks in a season, per ESPN Stats & Info.

Stephen Curry, who entered Sunday's game with 388 threes, broke his own record for the most three-pointers made in a season, and unbelievably did so by February.

Regardless of what happens in the postseason—and the Warriors will be heavy favorites to repeat as NBA champions, though the Spurs will have something to say about that—Golden State's regular season will go down as one of the most amazing in the history of team sports.

But if Golden State hadn't at least matched the Bulls, there would have been an undeniable sense of falling short—at least from those outside the Dubs' locker room.

The comparisons between the Warriors and the 1995-96 Chicago team will continue in the playoffs—even if Golden State proceeds to defeat the Grizzlies in the regular-season finale to reach 73 victories.

The 1995-96 Bulls lost just one game before the NBA Finals, where they defeated the Seattle SuperSonics in six games.

Especially in a deep Western Conference with another dynastic team, the Spurs, to deal with, it'd be impressive to see Golden State drop three games or fewer in the postseason. Should the Warriors pull that feat off, they may go down as the best NBA team of all time.
