Gibson Out for Remainder of the Season
Monday, April 11
Chicago Bulls head coach Fred Hoiberg told reporters that Gibson won't play in Chicago's final two regular-season games against the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday and Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday. The Bulls have already been eliminated from playoff contention.
Gibson Unable to Shake Injury Bug
This is yet another physical setback for Gibson, after he suffered through a foot injury and hamstring injury just this season alone. Gibson’s ailments are symbolic of what has been a frustrating campaign in the Windy City, as the injury-marred Bulls have failed to live up to expectations or develop much on-court chemistry because of various health concerns.
Former Defensive Player of the Year Joakim Noah suffered a season-ending shoulder injury, while Jimmy Butler, Mike Dunleavy and Nikola Mirotic have all missed sizable chunks of games with their own physical issues. What’s more, Pau Gasol and Derrick Rose have also dealt with injuries at times this season.
Despite his setbacks, Gibson averaged 8.6 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 2015-16 and is one of Chicago’s most reliable interior defenders and rebounders. He was largely used off the bench the past few seasons, but the injuries to Noah and Mirotic forced Gibson into a starting role in 2015-16.
