WWE Superstar Power Rankings for 2/15/2016
This week's WWE Superstar Power Rankings will look significantly different from last week's list thanks to some great performances on Raw and SmackDown.
Alex Musso has been in charge of this article for quite some time, but I will be taking over for the time being. For all those who enjoyed Alex's work, I will do my best to retain the same spirit.
Before we get to the list, let's take a quick look at the eligibility requirements and judging criteria:
- Only Divas and Superstars from the main roster are eligible.
- They must have appeared on Raw or SmackDown within the past week.
- Both wrestling and non-wrestling segments will be considered when judging.
- Wins and losses do not matter as much as quality of work.
- Rankings will be based solely on the last week of shows.
Now we've got that out of the way, let's take a look at this week's rankings.
Honorable Mention: Titus O'Neil
1 of 13Titus O'Neil was suspended after a ridiculous incident on Raw involving Vince McMahon, according to Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com. He is taking it like a man, and this might actually end up benefitting him in the long run.
Since his suspension was announced, O'Neil has received tons of support from fans on social media. When he returns, which Johnson reported could be in a couple of months, he could be even more popular.
Many feel his punishment for joshing around with McMahon is way too harsh, especially considering how much work O'Neil does for WWE with charitable causes.
Batista even encouraged him to ask for his release, according to a response he gave to a fan on Twitter. Hopefully it doesn't come to that because O'Neil is a valuable talent both in and out of the ring.
Honorable Mention: Daniel Bryan
2 of 13Tears were shed across the wrestling world when Daniel Bryan announced his retirement during Monday's Raw.
The leader of the Yes Movement said a new test revealed his brain might not be as good as he thought, meaning the best option for him and his family was to hang up his boots.
It felt like Bryan had made peace with his situation as he talked about all the different reasons why he was grateful to the wrestling business.
It struck a chord when he said the fans didn't owe him anything because he and the rest of the roster do what they do because they love it. That kind of attitude is something every wrestler should adopt.
Bryan will likely pop up in the future for things such as guest refereeing a match, appearing on a WWE Network show or a pay-per-view pre-show panel, so this isn't the end of the road.
There are many different ways Bryan could continue to contribute to the sport, but he deserves to take some time off with his wife, Brie Bella, and figure out what he wants to do going forward.
Watch List
3 of 13Goldust and R-Truth
The segments featuring Goldust's attempts to recruit R-Truth as his new tag team partner have produced some humorous moments. Neither one of these men was doing much until a few weeks ago, so anything is better than sitting on the sidelines. If they prove to have good chemistry, they could be a great addition to the tag team division.
Naomi
Naomi put on her best performance in a long time in a match against Sasha Banks on SmackDown. She is athletic, flashy and as charismatic as they come. If WWE is serious about making the Divas division a priority in 2016, Naomi needs to be used a lot more often.
Bray Wyatt
Bray Wyatt delivered a promo on SmackDown that reminded us all why we liked him in the first place. It was the first time in months that his words seemed convincing, which made his performance much more intriguing. It's tough to say what 2016 has in store for the leader of The Wyatt Family, but hopefully he is booked to win more than he was in 2015.
Becky Lynch
Few people in WWE define the words "total package" like Becky Lynch, but for one reason or another, she always seems to be overshadowed by someone else. First it was Charlotte, and now it's Banks. It's only a matter of time before she finds herself back in the hunt for the Divas Championship, so all we can do now is wait patiently for her to become the No. 1 contender again.
10. The New Day
4 of 13If The New Day makes any kind of appearance, there is a good chance the group will knock it out of the park, even if it's losing to put someone else over.
Kofi Kingston, Big E and Xavier Woods have been the most consistent performers on the roster for quite some time, and they have been rewarded with as much screen time every week as some of the biggest names on the roster.
They might have lost their tables match against The Usos and The Dudley Boyz on Raw, but taking a loss never seems to hurt their image. They just keep coming back and entertaining us while annoying their opponents.
It will be a sad day when this stable breaks up, so we should appreciate The New Day while we can.
9. Roman Reigns
5 of 13Roman Reigns may have been involved in two of the biggest segments on last week's Raw, but he didn't do anything important, hence his low placement on the list.
He was hit with a table by Brock Lesnar, and then he distracted Lesnar later in the night while The Beast was fighting Dean Ambrose.
Reigns took a bit of a backseat for the greater good, which allowed Ambrose to stand out against the most intimidating Superstar on the WWE roster.
Reigns has made significant improvements to every aspect of his game, but some fans still aren't sold on him as the future of the company. How he performs at Fastlane and WrestleManaia 32 could determine his future.
8. Sasha Banks
6 of 13It doesn't say much for the Divas champion when a different storyline is overshadowing her feud for the title, but that is what's happening with Sasha Banks.
The Boss is clearly the most popular Diva in the division, and it's easy to see why. Her matches are always fun to watch, but it's the nuances in her performance that put her on a different level. It's things such as her facial expressions and body language that make her stand out.
She is playing an exaggerated character, but she does it so well we believe it might be her real personality despite having seen how different she is on shows such as Breaking Ground and Unfiltered.
Her contest against Naomi on SmackDown blew away the other women's matches this week, and her ongoing storyline with Becky Lynch is a lot more entertaining than Charlotte's feud with Brie Bella.
If Banks isn't the Divas champion by the summer, someone on the creative team has dropped the ball.
7. The Dudley Boyz
7 of 13The Dudley Boyz made a huge impact this week by turning heel and attacking The Usos following their victory over The New Day and Mark Henry.
It was one of the first shocking heel turns we have seen in a long time, and that is what made it so much fun to watch.
The promo Bubba Ray and D-Von delivered on SmackDown was a return to form for one of the best heel tag teams in the history of the business. They knew telling everyone they would never use tables again would get them heat, and it worked like a charm.
The tag team division has a lot of great talent, but it needed something to shake it up, and The Dudley Boyz turning heel could be just what the doctor ordered.
6. Kevin Owens
8 of 13Kevin Owens is one of those rare talents who can do just about everything. He can cut a great promo, adjust his style to any opponent and is capable of drawing real heat from a crowd whenever he wants.
Owens did not appear on SmackDown, but his stellar match against Dolph Ziggler on Raw was more than enough to get him included in this week's power rankings.
This storyline feels like its only purpose is to keep both of these guys on TV until something better comes along, but who cares? As long as they keep delivering show-stealing performances, they can feud as long as they want.
5. Dolph Ziggler
9 of 13The only reason Ziggler ranks above Owens is because he won their aforementioned match. Both of them were equally responsible for the quality of their contest.
Ziggler is somewhat polarizing. Some feel he is one of the best workers in the company, while others think he is overrated. It's been that way for years.
Like many Superstars, he has a handful of moves he tries to use in every match, but he is capable of mixing things up when he has enough time.
If he hasn't made you a believer by now, he probably never will, but even his biggest critics have to admit his bout with Owens stole the show on Monday night.
4. Brock Lesnar
10 of 13Lesnar looked like a monster in the opening segment of Raw. He threw a table at Reigns to knock him out of the ring and then he delivered an F5 to Dean Ambrose.
Later in the night, he destroyed The Lunatic Fringe, but he ended up taking a low blow following a distraction from Roman Reigns.
Any segment involving Lesnar, whether it's a promo from Paul Heyman or some kind of physical confrontation, is going to grab everyone's attention.
He has a certain presence nobody else can replicate, and having Paul Heyman by his side is an added bonus. Lesnar's limited schedule makes every appearance special. It's just too bad we don't get to see more than a handful of matches from The Beast every year.
3. AJ Styles
11 of 13AJ Styles came to WWE in January with big expectations. He has been called one of the greatest performers in the history of pro wrestling for a long time, and he is finally getting a chance to prove he has earned that reputation in the biggest promotion in the world.
So far, he is living up to the hype, and his matches against Chris Jericho have been key to showing anyone unfamiliar with his work why he has such a large following.
They wrestled twice on SmackDown. The first match was as partners against The Social Outcasts, and the second was as opponents in the main event.
For two guys who have never worked together before two weeks ago, they have amazing chemistry. Everything they did looked effortless, and that only comes from decades of combined experience.
They put on the best match of the week and gave us signs this isn't the last we have seen from the two of them. A tiebreaker at Fastlane seems like the best way to go in this situation.
2. Chris Jericho
12 of 13Chris Jericho is 45 years old, yet he can still wrestle circles around the majority of the roster, even after taking several months off between feuds.
Whoever decided to pair Jericho up with Styles deserves a pat on the back. This is literally a dream feud most of us never through we would see.
On paper, these two look like mirror images. They are both on the smaller side, use a lot of exciting offense, spent time wrestling in other countries and made names for themselves before ever setting foot in a WWE ring.
Jericho is as versatile as they come, and that makes him the perfect person to help AJ Styles look like a star in the eyes of the WWE Universe.
1. Dean Ambrose
13 of 13The Lunatic Fringe tops the list this week. Dean Ambrose was out to prove he was tough enough to stand in the ring with Lesnar, and he accomplished that goal on Raw.
After Lesnar delivered an F5, Ambrose called him back to the ring for more. Moments such as this establish his resiliency and willingness to take a beating if it leads to getting the last laugh.
Using a low blow could be viewed as cowardly, but Ambrose was already weakened, so it was the most effective way to capitalize off of Reigns' distraction.
Ambrose is one of the few people on the roster who delivers every single time he picks up a mic or steps through the ropes. With Bryan out of the picture, Ambrose could find himself as the new Internet darling of WWE.
Do you agree with this week's Superstar Power Rankings? How would you have ordered the list?
