Becky Lynch and the Best WWE Mic Mastery for Week of January 11

Ryan DilbertJan 15, 2016

Becky Lynch breathed fire into every microphone she spoke into. The surging babyface is riding a wave of rage and passion to help make her feud with Charlotte one of the best things going in WWE right now.

As she closes in on a Divas Championship match, Lynch is seizing every trash-talking opportunity, using her verbal acumen to leave a lasting impact on the women's division.

When WWE began to tease a rivalry between these allies, it felt like a transitional one. Lynch had been the kooky friend in the background up to that point. Surely the company was just getting Charlotte a handful of wins before moving on to a more marquee matchup.

Lynch would simply serve as stepping stone. But as this story has unfolded, Lynch has proved to be more than that.

Referees struggle to hold back Becky Lynch.

Wincing from a knife wound in her back, focused on vengeance and championship gold, she's been a compelling figure. She's gone from sidekick to star.

On Monday's Raw, she grabbed hold of the audience's attention with a beatdown and a haunting threat.

Charlotte readied herself for a battle with Brie Bella. The match never happened. Instead, Lynch ambushed the woman who betrayed and attacked her last week.

As the referees pulled her off, she promised to take Charlotte's arm as well as her championship.

That unsettling warning was just a warm-up for Lynch's highlight of a promo. Enraged, she spoke with JoJo Offerman backstage. She talked about how Charlotte abandoned their friendship and how she's feeling mighty pissed off.

"My emotions are exactly where they should be," she said.

Lynch then sold herself as a threat to Charlotte. She reminded the audience that she had the champ in the Dis-Arm-Her—trapped and helpless.

"I am the woman that made the champion tap out. I'm the woman who made her give up, made her surrender. And you can be certain that I'm going to do it again," Lynch told Offerman.

The Irish bruiser came off convincingly focused and angry. She was compelling. She seemed to really believe what she spouted in that short interview.

Praise for it came from everywhere.

Jason Powell of ProWrestling.net wrote, "She delivered some of the best mic work of the night with her fiery backstage promo." PWMania's Jason Solomon, Wrestle Zone and Three Man Booth were among those thrilled by what they heard:

WWE offered Lynch some more mic time on Thursday's SmackDown. She kept her momentum going with more strong work.

She challenged Charlotte to a title match at the Royal Rumble. This is the match many saw coming weeks ago when these two began bickering.

With a tinge of humor amid all her anger, Lynch played the gung-ho gladiator role to a tee.

She said, "Charlotte can bring her father. She can bring her mother, her first cousin twice removed. She can being the whole Flair clan for all I care." And, of course, she promised a "good old-fashioned Irish lass kicking."

The promo was simple, zeroed in on the key components of this narrative and made one more excited to see these two enemies fight.

A lot of credit has to go to Lynch for helping this rivalry pick up steam. Not guaranteed a prime spot on the stage past this feud, she's done everything she can to change her position in the division's hierarchy.

If she keeps singeing her rivals with top-notch mic work, she will soon be protecting the Divas Championship rather than pursuing it.
