Carroll Out vs. Mavericks
Tuesday, Dec. 22
Mark Followill of Fox Sports reported Carroll won't play on Tuesday.
Carroll's Defense Missed by Raptors
Carroll was ailed by plantar fasciitis in the first two weeks of the season and battled through a nasty knee sprain in last year’s Eastern Conference Finals while playing for the Atlanta Hawks.
Carroll, 29, signed a four-year, $60 million deal with the Raptors last offseason—a massive uptick to the two years and $5 million from the Hawks—making him the highest-paid Raptor, per Spotrac.
Known for being a rugged defender on the perimeter, Carroll hopped around the waiver wire before landing in Atlanta, where he spent two seasons and led the Hawks to the ECF for the first time in franchise history.
He was brought in to help Toronto’s wing defense as a versatile forward who would facilitate matchups against most lineups. Backup Bruno Caboclo will likely see increased minutes in Carroll’s stead, though he doesn’t present nearly as much of a defensive presence.
