Jose Mourinho Doesn't Expect Chelsea Sacking After 3-1 Defeat to Liverpool

Tim DanielsOct 31, 2015

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho remained defiant after the Blues' 3-1 loss to Liverpool on Saturday by stating he doesn't expect to get sacked amid mounting criticism due to the club's lackluster start.

ITV Football notes the 52-year-old boss was asked directly whether he felt the side's latest Premier League defeat would mark the end of his tenure at Stamford Bridge. He simply replied: "No, I don't."

The terse answer was par for the course following the fixture. Alex Richards of the Daily Mirror noted Mourinho responded with the phrase "I have nothing to say" 11 separate times during a post-match interview with BT Sport.

He did comment on the continued support from the fans during difficult times, as highlighted by the club's official site.

"I take comfort but what feeds me is not just the support of the fans, but the recognition of our work, and that is by getting results," Mourinho said. "I have some players really sad in the dressing room and I’m full of respect for them."

Bleacher Report UK provided pictures of a meeting between the coaching staff:

Saturday's match actually got off to a promising start for Chelsea as Ramires scored inside the first five minutes to give the Blues an early lead.

It was basically all Liverpool from that point forward, however. Philippe Coutinho scored shortly before halftime to level things up, and second-half tallies from the Brazilian and Christian Benteke earned all three points for the visiting side.

The Reds won the possession battle at 58 percent while generating seven shots on target compared to just two for the Blues.

Chelsea currently sits in 15th place with just 11 points from 11 matches. That's the worst start by a reigning champion in Premier League history, according to ESPN Stats and Info. So it doesn't come as much surprise that Mourinho is squarely on the hot seat.

The question is whether the club believes a manager change can salvage the league campaign or if the "Special One" still gives them the best chance to rebound from the sluggish start. Mourinho seems confident in the latter outlook. At least for now.
