Breeders' Cup 2015 TV Schedule: Live Stream, Start Times and Race Predictions

Tyler DumaOct 31, 2015

In just a few short hours on Saturday, some of the best horses in the entire world will take to the various tracks at Keeneland Racecourse in Lexington, Kentucky, to decide who's the best at their respective crafts.

It's really an incredible day of racing when you consider the variety of distances and the intermingling of high-class turf and dirt runners.

That's every Breeders' Cup. This one has found a whole other level, though, thanks in large part to the presence of one of the most dominant three-year-olds in the history of thoroughbred racing: American Pharoah.

This Breeders' Cup—and more specifically the Breeders' Cup Classic—will serve as Pharoah's swan song, as he's set to retire after what could be the eighth, yes eighth, Grade 1 victory of his short-lived career.

This year's Breeders' Cup isn't short on incredible storylines, but with first post rapidly approaching, let's pause to take one last look at everything you need to know about how to take in the races, as well as some predictions on which horses will walk into the winner's circle throughout the day.

14 Hands Winery Juvenile Filly

This is a difficult race—to be fair, they all are on Breeders' Cup Saturday—but I like Rachel's Valentina to come away with a victory in the 14 Hands Winery Juvenile Filly.

The two-year-old filly will have her work cut out for her, going up against stiff competition like Tap to It, Nickname and Songbird, but she should have one more impressive effort left in the tank to close out her two-year-old season.

Rachel's Valentina is an offspring of two champion thoroughbreds, Rachel Alexandra and Bernardini. The young filly is showing off traits from both her parentsmost notably an ability to stalk the pace and close like a freight train.

The Todd Pletcher-trained filly's most recent victory in the Spinaway Stakes was impressive, but we saw the full range of her abilities in her debut race.

After a botched start, Rachel's Valentina had to play catch-up immediately. Under a steady ride from jockey John Velazquez, the two-year-old regained a stalking position and proceeded to run free in the stretch before eventually finishing with a two-length victory.

She's already beaten Tap to It—a feat she accomplished in the Spinaway—and is the "Princess of the Spa," so she's shown the class necessary to hang with, and eventually beat, this crop of fillies.

Breeders' Cup Classic

The big news in the Classic is that Beholder is out.

It's a bit disappointing that we won't see her take a swing at the boys in the Classic, but the important thing is to make sure she's at full strength. So, while Beholder takes a break—we hope she gets better soon!—the rest of the field will take to the Keeneland dirt track to try to find a way to beat American Pharoah.

Frosted and Keen Ice were able to work Pharoah over in the Travers, forcing the likely three-year-old champion to spend precious energy early on in the race. That breakdown caused Pharoah to falter in the stretch run, which gave way to a Keen Ice victory.

This time, Pharoah is fresh—he's coming off a two-month layoff—and ready to cement his position as the best horse in the world.

Behind him he'll face a few familiar foes in the form of Keen Ice and Frosted and also some new faces such as 2014 Belmont Stakes champion Tonalist and the back-to-back winner of the 2015 Met Mile and the Whitney, Honor Code.

Those four contenders share a combined seven Grade 1 victories over the course of their racing careers. To put that in perspective, Pharoah has already logged seven such victories in only 10 career races.

No horse in this field has the resume that Pharoah does; in fact, no horse even comes remotely close. He is a heavy favorite for a reason, after all.

Mark it upPharoah in a landslide.
