Philip Rivers, Keenan Allen, Danny Woodhead Post-Week 7 Fantasy Advice

Matt FitzgeraldOct 25, 2015

Almost all of the San Diego Chargers' offensive production came in garbage time during their 37-29 loss to the Oakland Raiders on Sunday. But that wasn't a bad thing for fantasy owners who were counting on another big day from Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers and Co.

Rivers connected often with favorite target Keenan Allen, but two of his three touchdown passes went to running back Danny Woodhead. It made the final score more respectable, rescued Rivers' owners and rewarded those who gambled on Woodhead as a flex dark horse.

Check out some individualized fantasy advice for all three San Diego players following Week 7, along with their final stats.

Philip Rivers

Bear in mind that Rivers was working behind a decimated offensive line and had to contend with pass-rushers like Khalil Mack on Sunday. It resulted in a horrendous start as the Chargers fell behind 37-6, but Rivers did his best to get his side back into the game.

No matter what happens, Rivers always seems to put up big numbers. With the way the 2015 campaign is going, he may wind up leading the NFL in passing. He had 58 pass attempts Sunday one game after throwing for over 500 yards.

If fantasy owners aren't buying Rivers' stock by now, they're being unreasonable. San Diego has to throw to be successful on offense, and the team has been playing from behind lately. No matter what happens, the stage is set for Rivers to continue lighting up the scoreboard.

Keenan Allen

Explosive plays have never been the name of Allen's game. He's the ultimate possession receiver with a nice catch radius, tremendous hands and outstanding route-running ability.

The glaring problem with Allen from a fantasy perspective is his lack of touchdowns. Allen hasn't found paydirt since Week 4. But that means he's due for a TD soon enough, so owners should be patient for the time being.

Week 8 offers Allen an excellent opportunity to snap his scoring drought. The Chargers will face a Baltimore Ravens defense that ranks 29th against the pass. Averaging 12 targets per game this season, Allen figures to feast on the favorable matchup.

Danny Woodhead

Both of Woodhead's touchdowns came in the last six minutes of a game that was decided in the first half. The shifty scatback has made the most of his touches but benefited from Melvin Gordon being banged up in Week 7.

Scott Pianowski of Yahoo Sports emphasized that the majority of Woodhead's Week 7 fantasy appeal was an illusion:

Since the team drafted Gordon in the first round, San Diego will give him every chance to succeed and gain reps to expedite his development as a featured back. Woodhead has a niche as a pass-catching specialist, yet fantasy owners can't count on him for consistent production.

Points-per-reception leagues will reward Woodhead's owners, but those playing in daily formats should have him only as a sleeper flex option.
