Arsenal Transfer News: Latest Paulo Dybala, Ezequiel Lavezzi Rumours

Gianni VerschuerenOct 23, 2015

Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini has advised his former player and current Juventus star Paulo Dybala to leave the Bianconeri, alerting Arsenal and Manchester United in the process.

Speaking to Radio Sportiva (h/t Tuttosport, via ESPN FC's Ben Gladwell), Zamparini believes current Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri is “ruining” the talented attacker, just months after the Argentina international moved to the Italian champions:

"

I'm really annoyed with Allegri because he's ruining a champion. Dybala personifies football, Allegri doesn't.

When somebody personifies football like [Lionel] Messi does, then they should be given liberty and not forced into certain tactics. [Allegri should] train [Mario] Mandzukic and the others, but this way he's ruining Dybala.

I've written to Paulo telling him to ask Juve to send him elsewhere. I've told him to make friends with the veterans, who I think are jealous of him. Allegri is destroying the work that [Antonio] Conte did.

As reported by the Daily Star's Jamie Anderson, both the Gunners and United are potential destinations should the youngster fall out with Juventus.

Arsenal were among the clubs showing a strong interest in his services, per talkSPORT, but Dybala opted to stay in Italy rather than try his luck elsewhere.

The 21-year-old has impressed whenever he has played for the Bianconeri so far, but Allegri hasn't made him a full starter yet. He has scored three goals and added an assist in four Serie A starts this season, per WhoScored.com.

Fans and pundits alike have been begging Allegri to start Dybala more often, with the rest of the Juventus forwards suffering from inconsistency. Football pundit Mina Rzouki has been among the most vocal supporters of the young forward, but David Amoyal, a translator for Gianluca Di Marzio, calls for patience:

Dybala exploded during the 2014-15 season, establishing himself as arguably the top young attacking talent in Italy, but he's still just 21 years old.

He's moved from Palermo, a small club where he was the unquestioned star in attack, to Juventus, the most successful and dominant club in Italy. Adjusting to those new surroundings takes time.

The current situation is reminiscent of the one Alvaro Morata found himself in last season. He too completed a big-money move to the club and hardly played when he first arrived, only to emerge as Juventus' top attacker in the second half of the season.

Per FourFourTwo's Adam Digby, this shows Allegri knows what he's doing:

Juventus bought Dybala just a couple of months ago―a transfer move away from the club seems next to impossible at this point.

Patience was always going to be key, for all parties involved, and just because Zamparini feels the need to get involved in Juventus' business doesn't change anything. Per Digby, it may actually mean the opposite.

Should Arsenal be looking for added depth in the attacking third, an alternative option would be Paris Saint-Germain forward Ezequiel Lavezzi.

According to Calciomercato (h/t talkSPORT), the Gunners have made an approach to sign him at the end of the season, when his current contract is set to expire.

The 30-year-old has only been a bit-part player with Les Parisiens in 2015-16, and per Bleacher Report's Jonathan Johnson, PSG don't seem too determined to hold on to the player:

The Argentina international isn't the most technically refined player, but he mainly relies on his athleticism and high work rate as a wide man.

Last season, he scored eight goals and added two assists in 19 Ligue 1 starts, per Whoscored.com. Those are some solid numbers for a winger who has spent most of the 2015-16 season on the bench.

The key to this switch would be the fact that Lavezzi is set to become a free agent, meaning a move for the veteran would cost very little. Barcelona fans have been reacting to the news he could be on the way to the Camp Nou very poorly, and it's hard to understand why.

La Liga blogger Sergi Dominguez kept it civil:

As a low-risk signing who would at the very least add some depth, it's hard to see why anyone would complain about adding Lavezzi. He isn't a star and his best days may be behind him, but as a free agent, he presents exceptional value.

With the Gunners, Lavezzi would be a bench option who would see the bulk of his minutes in cup matches or in case of injuries. His speed seems well suited for the fast-paced Premier League, and fans would love the blue-collar mentality he has on the pitch.

Spending big money on Lavezzi doesn't sound all that appealing, but for a modest fee, this is a player worth adding.
