Katina Powell Speaks on The View About Book Alleging Louisville's Use of Escorts

Mike ChiariOct 23, 2015

Katina Powell, the self-professed former madam who alleges former University of Louisville basketball players and recruits were provided with strippers and escorts, appeared on The View Friday to discuss her tell-all book.

According to Pat Forde of Yahoo Sports, Powell co-wrote a book entitled "Breaking Cardinal Rules: Basketball and the Escort Queen." In it, Powell alleges that former Louisville graduate assistant and director of basketball operations Andre McGee arranged nearly two dozen stripping and sex parties for recruits from 2010 through 2014, per ESPN.com's John Barr and Jeff Goodman.

Powell also alleges that she was paid $10,000 to provide strippers to dance for the recruits and to provide escorts to have sex with some of the recruits as well, according to Barr and Goodman.

When asked about the book Friday, Powell revealed her motivations for coming forward with her story, per Howie Lindsey of the Louisville SportsReport:

Powell also admitted that writing the book was financially motivated, according to Matt Norlander of CBS Sports:

Cardinals head coach Rick Pitino denies having any knowledge of McGee's alleged actions with regard to Powell and the recruits, per ESPN.com's Dana O'Neil.

"Not myself, not one player, not one trainer, not one assistant, not one person knew anything about any of this," Pitino said. "If anyone did, it would have been stopped on a dime. Not one person knew anything about it."

During her appearance on The View, however, Powell alleged that some of the former recruits and players' parents did know about the parties, according to Norlander.

The Louisville basketball program is currently under investigation by the NCAA, as is McGee, who is currently an assistant coach for the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

The NCAA has not yet taken action against any of the parties allegedly involved, while potential legal action hasn't been taken against Powell at this time.
