5-Star Guard Chase Lumpkin Announces CBB Commitment Between Michigan, Alabama, USC

The Alabama men's basketball team continues to become a top landing spot for highly touted recruits.

On Wednesday, class of 2027 5-star combo guard Chase Lumpkin announced his commitment to the Crimson Tide over fellow finalists Michigan and USC. Lumpkin is ranked as the No. 6 combo guard and No. 25 overall player in 247Sports' composite.

A 6'3", 190-pound prospect out of McEachern High School in Georgia, Lumpkin is the latest recruiting win for Alabama head coach Nate Oats. The Crimson Tide's 2026 recruiting class was ranked sixth in 247Sports' composite, headlined by prospects Qayden Samuels and Jaxon Richardson.

247Sports director of scouting Adam Finkelstein described Lumpkin as a "big guard with long arms (6-foot-8 wingspan), a nose for the ball, and a budding versatile skill set." He noted that the youngster averaged "17 points, nearly 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals per game in the recent EYBL season," and predicted that he could be productive at either guard spot.

"Lumpkin is a true combo-guard, with real on/off ball versatility," Finkelstein stated. "He may ultimately be capable of evolving into a big-lead guard, or full-time initiator (2:1 assist-to-turnover ratio), but isn't quite that yet. He plays at his own pace, but is smoother and craftier than he is naturally explosive with his first step."

Under Oats' direction, the Crimson Tide have made it to at least the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament in each of the last four years. Alabama has long been known as a football school, but it's clear that the basketball program has also established itself as a national powerhouse.

Landing Lumpkin is a strong sign that the Crimson Tide will maintain their status as national championship contenders for years to come.
