Brazil Chasing Historic Victory

The Brazil team who took to the field against the United States earlier this week will be pleased with the performance they put in against the best side in the world overall. But they will also be a little disappointed they were unable to cling on for a memorable victory.
After all, as we can see here courtesy of SportsCenter, the Selecao would have been the first team to have gotten the better of the U.S. women's national team on home soil for a very long time indeed:

There are reasons for Vadao and his team to be positive, though. For the most part they defended diligently up against the United States' array of quality attacking options and preserved a big threat in the game when breaking from deep positions.

Marta, a five-time FIFA World Player of the Year, is likely to be the main threat for the visitors once again at the Citrus Bowl. As noted by Caitlin Murray of the Guardian, the forward is not a player who regularly takes to the field for these exhibition encounters, but the United States are pretty special opponents:
The United States nullified her impact on the game last time out and will have been disappointed with their profligacy in front of goal. That’s something coach Jillian Ellis will be hopeful of seeing an improvement on in Florida as the USWNT are guaranteed to create a lot of chances against any opposition.
With players like Lloyd in the team, there’s an eminent goal threat. The World Cup Golden Ball winner showed her razor-sharp instincts in front of goal with a fine finish in Seattle and caused problems for the Brazilian defence throughout with her clever movement.
Here’s a look at the equaliser, which included some incisive build-up play, courtesy of USWNT expert Meg Linehan:

Even though you wouldn’t believe it looking at the manner in which the team finished the game, Lloyd admitted afterward there are still players not at full tilt following the World Cup win, per Tim Booth of the Associated Press (h/t Yahoo):
"Overall I think it's a good build up. Obviously we're coming off a World Cup win but we're not at our sharpest. We’re kind of rebuilding and there are a lot of new faces out there. ... Overall I think it's good stuff and we can build off it and these are the teams we want to play against.
"

Ellis will be looking at this game as a great chance to get a clearer picture of the players set to join the team’s January training camp. It’s from that group the manager will pick the squad for the Olympics next summer.
Still, there’ll be a desire to get a win over a top-class team. Brazil will be fearless in their play and look for a similar kind of performance to the one that took them so close in Seattle. However, there were signs in the game late on that the USWNT have a big edge over the Selecao, and that’ll come to fruition in Florida on Sunday.
Prediction: United States 3-1 Brazil
