World Golf Rankings 2015: Jason Day, Jordan Spieth Top Latest Standings
Jason Day has returned to his status as the world's No. 1 golfer in the latest rankings after knocking Jordan Spieth off of the top spot.
Fox Sports News confirmed the change on Twitter on Monday, with Spieth now occupying the No. 2 spot behind the Australian. According to the official rankings, the pair are separated by the finest of margins—a points average of just 0.0272.
Day topped the standings in September, but the American quickly ended his brief spell after just a week.
Rory McIlroy, who also topped the standings earlier in September, trails the pair by 1.4738, which seems almost like a gulf in comparison, though he remains comfortably ahead of Bubba Watson in fourth.
Here are the current top 10 golfers in the world, who are otherwise unchanged:
| 1 | Jason Day |
| 2 | Jordan Spieth |
| 3 | Rory McIlroy |
| 4 | Bubba Watson |
| 5 | Rickie Fowler |
| 6 | Henrik Stenson |
| 7 | Justin Rose |
| 8 | Dustin Johnson |
| 9 | Jim Furyk |
| 10 | Zach Johnson |
Day has been in majestic form this year, winning six tournaments, including his first major at the PGA Championship in August. He claimed his best-ever finish at the British Open when he ended the tournament tied for fourth place, too.
ESPN.com's Jason Sobel praised Day's performance for the Internationals in the Presidents Cup earlier in October:
The 27-year-old is targeting more success in the future. Per Golf.com, he said: "I thrive under pressure. You have to love the fight. Hitting the big shot under major pressure is addictive. I can get used to hitting those big shots. I can get used to winning majors."
He also reflected on a light-hearted moment in his friendly competition with Spieth at the PGA, per Golf.com:
"My favorite moment with Jordan on Sunday was on 11. He hits a good drive, about 300 yards. Then I absolutely crush it 382 yards down the fairway. He gets up to [his shot] laughing his head off. He says to me, 'Holy s--t! Do you know where you hit your ball?' I just gave him a little bicep curl.
"
Spieth, who finished runner-up behind Day in Wisconsin, has also had an unforgettable year.

The 22-year-old won the U.S. Open, the Masters as well as the Tour Championship and tied for fourth at the Open.
Spieth also claimed three points for the Americans at the Presidents Cup, helping his side win the tournament by one point.
According to Yahoo Sports' Ryan Ballengee, neither player actually took to the course in the week leading up to the rankings change, but they exchanged places due to the two-year rolling calculations that determine their order.
As Day is not set to play again until December, Ballengee predicts more rankings changes in the near future with both Spieth and McIlroy likely to overtake him with appearances in the WGC-HSBC Champions and the four Race to Dubai Finals, respectively.
