Ben Gordon Waived by Warriors: Latest Comments and Reaction
After Ben Gordon played a little over 16 minutes in the preseason, the Golden State Warriors announced they have waived the veteran 2-guard on Wednesday.
Yahoo Sports' Marc J. Spears initially reported the move.
Gordon was always a long shot to make the Warriors' final roster, and the limited time he received on the court was a telling sign as to his future with the team. The 32-year-old averaged a point and an assist in his two preseason appearances with Golden State.
ESPN's Amin Elhassan joked Gordon was resembling some of the main characters from Life after they reached old age:
As Sactown Royalty's Akis Yerocostas alluded to, Gordon has had quite a precipitous decline over the last five or so years:
Once a 20-point-a-game scorer, Gordon bottomed out in 2013-14, when he played 19 games and averaged 5.2 points on 34.3 percent shooting.
The Orlando Magic took a flier on him last offseason, and they appeared to be a good fit. Ideally, Gordon would bring experience to a rebuilding team, and the Magic found a sharpshooter they needed in the backcourt.
Instead, Gordon played in 56 games, averaging 6.2 points and shooting 36.1 percent from deep. He provided little return on the $4.5 million he earned for the year.
While Gordon could still make a comeback and become a sixth man/role player on an NBA team, you would've expected it to happen with the Magic. The fact it didn't is somewhat concerning regarding his future.
With the Oct. 26 roster deadline approaching, Gordon is unlikely to find a new home before the regular season. He might be an attractive addition for a team gutted by injuries during the season or a playoff team looking for that last piece before the postseason begins.
