Roman Reigns vs. Bray Wyatt: Feud Deserving of WWE Hell in a Cell Main Event

Erik BeastonOct 13, 2015

When Hell in a Cell streams live on the WWE Network on October 25, the main event will feature the culmination of Undertaker and Brock Lesnar's rivalry as the industry giants compete inside the dangerous steel structure.

But should it?

After three months of intense matches and moments across Raw, SmackDown and pay-per-view, Roman Reigns and Bray Wyatt deserve to have the opportunity to bring their program to a head in the marquee match of WWE's annual October extravaganza.

The show is one that is typically meaningless in the grand scheme of things, a C-level event despite housing one of the most popular gimmick bouts in the industry.

In 2014, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose headlined the show, with WWE world heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar nowhere to be found. The company took a risk and allowed two guys not quite firmly entrenched in the main event scene the opportunity to headline a pay-per-view, and they rewarded that faith by delivering a fantastic bout.

Why not pull the trigger and allow Reigns and Wyatt the chance to tear the house down with a physically intense, brutal and violent match that brings their feud to a close?

Sure, Lesnar and Undertaker will sell the show, but putting them in the middle of the showwhere a potentially disappointing showing would not adversely affect the cardwould be beneficial to both.

Best of all, it would allow fans to see Reigns and Wyatt as legitimate headline talent, enhancing their stars in the process.

WWE Raw has hardly been on a hot streak of late, but one element of the show that has really delivered on a consistent basis has been Reigns and Wyatt's heated rivalry.

Want proof? Go back and revisit the September 28 episode of Raw, which ended in chaos as the two brawled throughout the arena and climaxed with a huge spear by Reigns through the announce table.

Since July, it has been the best and most structured rivalry, complete with the debut of Braun Strowman, the hesitant alliance between Reigns, Ambrose and Randy Orton in recent weeks and Wyatt's insistence that Reigns not be the man to lead the company into the future.

It is an easy feud to follow, and the vaunted Hell in a Cell match is the perfect setting for a feud of this type. It is intensely personal and will end only when one man can endure no further punishment.

While the concept of Hell in a Cell has been watered down in recent years, with the company's insistence to use it as the centerpiece of a pay-per-view rather than allowing it to be the feud-ender it was designed as, Reigns and Wyatt could help restore credibility to the match with an all-out war.

Alas, Undertaker and Lesnar will headline the show in the followup to their SummerSlam bout.

While that rivalry is also fitting of the spot, one cannot help but to think about Reigns and Wyatt's status as full-time stars capable of carrying the company for the next decade and consider that they deserve the opportunity to prove to themselves, management and the entire WWE Universe what they are capable of delivering in such a high-profile position.
