Randy Orton, Dean Ambrose Pairing Perfect Solution for Stars' Lack of Direction

Tom ClarkOct 13, 2015

Randy Orton and Dean Ambrose have suddenly found themselves as unlikely allies in Roman Reigns' war against The Wyatt Family.  The Viper and The Lunatic Fringe also worked together against The New Day on the October 12 edition of Monday Night Raw, and the combination of both could result in the birth of a new tag team.

Considering WWE seems to have little idea what to do with either man, it's definitely a good thing.

It's a time-honored tradition to take two Superstars with nothing to do and pair them up, in hopes they can do something together.  WWE has done it for years, and that seems to be the plan here as well.  In this case, it's the best idea available for both guys.

The fact is, Orton and Ambrose were going nowhere fast.

Orton was barely used up until recently and when he did make it back onto TV, he did so in a feud with Sheamus.  Their rivalry seemed to be never-ending, and fans appeared to be checking out a little more with each match the two men had.

Orton vs. Sheamus

Orton couldn't slither his way out of that feud.

Ambrose has really not had much to do since working Seth Rollins for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.  The man that many fans believe will eventually get a title run proved what he could do against Rollins.  But when that feud ended, so too did Ambrose's forward progress.

Ambrose was surely going crazy as a result.

To imagine both guys sitting still despite their experience and talent defied all understanding.  That's exactly what happened, though, but now fans are seeing what could potentially be WWE's next top duo, and the entertainment factor will make it must-see TV.

Ambrose is funny, he's witty and he's always a bit out of left field with his personality.  He has more of Roddy Piper in him than perhaps any Superstar in recent memory, and fans have truly connected with him on a deep level.

His character has appeared too goofy at times to be taken seriously, but he seems to have found a great balance now.  Fans want Ambrose; it's evident every time his music hits.

He is the loose cannon, the guy that refuses to follow along with anyone, and watching him attempt to cooperate with Orton should be both interesting and fun at the same time.

Orton is the elder statesman here, the one that has seen main event glory.  He's been where Ambrose wants to be, and he has an attitude that will not even allow the possibility of someone else being right. That is not the best environment for a partnership to begin, but there's no changing Orton; he's too wily and too smart to let anyone get too close.

Orton is accustomed to working on his own.  Where Ambrose has Reigns to depend on, Orton has no one, and it's worked for him thus far.  He has no reason to trust anyone, and no one should trust him.

Lack of trust could be the major source of trouble between them, as Orton's Evolution had serious heat with Ambrose's Shield just over a year ago.  Neither man really wants to be around the other, and that makes it even better.

This is the kind of chemistry that Kane and Daniel Bryan had in Team Hell No; unwilling partners in a war against a common enemy.  Orton and Ambrose will be fun, they will be entertaining and they will finally be headed in the right direction.

The fact is that despite Orton's edge in main event stardom over Ambrose, they're both on the same ground here.  They both need something relevant to do, something to spotlight them and allow them to contribute to the program.  This is not about Orton giving Ambrose the rub, and it's not even about Ambrose helping Orton look young and fresh again.

This is about two guys that deserve to shine, two guys that deserve to be in prime spots, getting the chance to do that and more.

Their differences will make them entertaining; their ability to work will make them worth the attention. WWE may have the next surprise hit tag team on its hands, and now all the guys themselves need is the time and room to make it work.

The truth is, they don't have anything else to do.
