Morata Reassures Fans After Lengthy Injury Reports
Saturday, Oct. 10
"Working flat out to be ready for Sunday [Oct. 18 to face Inter Milan]," tweeted Morata, translated by Football Italia. Previous reports indicated the striker could miss between one and four months, but Morata suggested this is way off the mark.
The 22-year-old injured his leg coming down after an aerial challenge and immediately reached for his calf. After some lengthy treatment on the pitch, he was taken off on a stretcher and replaced by Paco Alcacer, per Sport on Oct. 9.
Morata Vital to Ending Juve's Frustration
Morata is starting to find his form, scoring in both of Juventus' UEFA Champions League matches this season and adding one goal in Serie A, per WhoScored.com. The former Real Madrid man has been Juventus' most in-form striker, and he played a pivotal part in the Bianconeri's recent solid run after their dreadful start to the season.
Mario Mandzukic has been struggling with injuries as well and was recently sent back to Turin after he was deemed unfit to play for Croatia, per Goal's Tom Webber. With Fernando Llorente now plying his trade for Sevilla, the Italian champions could quickly become short on target men.
Simone Zaza will be in line to start alongside Paulo Dybala in Juventus' upcoming matches if Morata is unfit, but manager Massimiliano Allegri will be hoping he doesn't need to make such a decision.
