WWE's Top Tweets, Instagram Photos and Viral Videos for Week of Oct. 5
With as tremendous a show as Bayley and Sasha Banks put on at NXT TakeOver: Respect, it's no surprise that so much of the week's best WWE-related social media revolved around them.
Instagram captured a pre-match staredown between the two wrestlers. Banks and Bayley's peers tipped their hat to their performance on Wednesday night via Twitter.
Those women didn't create all the online buzz, though. A groom's tribute to Ric Flair, a Randy Orton-style approach to getting rid of a ghost and a look at the dangers of being a referee led to shareable content as well.

Fresh Backstage WWE Rumors 👊

Modern-Day Dream Matches 💭

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
We begin with Steve Austin having fun with the unending flow of rumors about him making a comeback come WrestleMania time. He recently did a photo shoot that involved him barreling down the water on a jet ski. A fan inserted a monster into the image; Austin joked about finding his WrestleMania opponent:
It's more likely that Stone Cold contributes to that event as a referee than a wrestler at this stage in his career.
That isn't always a walk-in-the-park gig, however. Charles Robinson and Mike Chioda can attest to the violence that can befall an official during the course of the action.
Those men appear several times in WWE's latest countdown video. The collection of clips shows instances where men like Shawn Michaels have turned their focus away from their foes and attacked the man in stripes:
Ric Flair is no stranger to clocking referees himself. He once delivered a low blow that floored both Michaels and the ref.
It was instances like that one that earned Flair the nickname The Dirtiest Player in the Game. Fan James Wooten saluted the 16-time world champ by bringing his trademark entrance to his own wedding.
Adorned in a feather-trimmed robe and a championship belt, Wooten walked down the aisle in a tribute to The Nature Boy:
He deserves kudos for going outside the box there. He not only put a stamp on his wedding day, but may have started a new trend. Don't be surprised if other husbands-to-be aren't tempted to emulate the stars of the squared circle to kick off their matrimonial ceremony.
Just don't opt for Goldberg's entrance. There's a fire waiting to happen with all that pyro.
And in the spirit of handling things one's own way, a video making the rounds shows off a guy dealing with a ghost in a unique fashion. There's not a lot of context to work with, but seeing a squealing prank victim respond with Orton's RKO is still a beautiful thing:
Finn Balor and Samoa Joe used their own trademark moves to score two victories on Wednesday night and become the first-ever winners of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.
The semifinals and finals were both excellent. And WWE did a tremendous job paying tribute to the late Dusty Rhodes at the tourney's close.
The superteam that is Balor and Joe then posed with its newly won trophy:
It was great to see WWE use the inherent drama of the tournament format and tag team wrestling get some spotlight. But TakeOver: Respect won't be remembered for that. It will be seen as a watershed moment for women's wrestling.
Thank Bayley and Banks' stellar Iron Man match for that. Even the two rivals' pre-match staredown was powerful:
The bout that followed earned a flood of praise, including some from Hall of Famer Mick Foley:
Xavier Woods chimed in as well, summing up how many felt about the instant classic:
Bayley celebrated her victory with tears, hugs and a smiley-face emoji. To prove that all her success hasn't made her any less of an endearing goofball, the NXT women's champ posted a funny shot of her uniquely marking the history-making moment that she and Banks had:
Here's to her and the rest of the women's division getting plenty more chances to celebrate massive wins for women's wrestling moving forward. The emotion that fans and wrestlers alike poured into their tweets that night is a sign of the sky-high potential of this division.
There are classics yet to craft, more trails yet to blaze.
