Triple H, Gunner and Latest WWE NXT Developmental News
Triple H had fans salivating with thoughts of WWE NXT's future. The intriguing possibility that this future could include Gunner has emerged, as well.
The COO's conference call discussing NXT TakeOver: Respect left fans with a number of tasty bits of info to digest. He talked about possibly working with other promotions, including one headquartered in the Far East.
As for Gunner, a trip to WWE's developmental brand is far from guaranteed, but he informed fans he wants to head there., and he and WWE apparently have talked about that desire.
Other news includes concern over Carmella, what Zahra Schreiber is up to post-NXT and which prospect is heading to WWE's reality show.
Former TNA Star Reportedly Having Conversations with WWE
1 of 5Don't go start fantasy-booking any matches just yet, but there's a possibility Gunner could follow Samoa Joe's lead and head to NXT.
The former TNA TV champion is currently a free agent. He recently revealed that he and WWE have at least had a few conversations.
In an interview with Scott Fishman for Channel Guide Magazine, Gunner said, "I definitely want to pursue WWE. There are some talks going on. I hope it comes to pass, so we'll see."
Gunner has the size and build that WWE typically covets. In his last few years with TNA he grew as a performer, seemingly growing more and more comfortable on the mic.
WWE would be smart to at least give him a short-term deal. That's especially true with NXT touring more. Gunner can, at the very least, add a veteran presence.
Carmella Hurt at NXT Live Event
2 of 5Carmella left her fans concerned after a recent bout.
She took on Eva Marie at an NXT house show in Nashville, Tennessee on Friday night. An errant kick sent Carmella on her back.
According to fan reports seen on ProWrestling.net, the match ended abruptly after Marie kicked Carmella in the head. Pro Wrestling Insider reported that the "Referee threw X sign immediately and helped Carmella to back."
Fan Trey Kolfer tweeted a photo of medical staff attending to The Princess of Staten Island.
There has been no word on the severity of the injury. Although, she certainly looked fine accompanying Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady to the ring for their match at Louder than Life Festival on Saturday.
Former NXT Prospect Makes First Wrestling Appearance Since Firing
3 of 5Ousted from NXT, Zahra Schreiber has found a new home.
As TMZ reported back in August, WWE let her go after catching wind of controversial social media posts. The former NXT prospect has since moved on.
Schreiber showed up at the end of a DREAMWAVE Wrestling event on Saturday, as noted by Mike Smollins for Sports World News. She appeared in a video (above) where she aligned with Donovan Danhausen.
The company then announced on Twitter she would be at the Survival of the Fittest event in November.
DREAMWAVE offers her a chance to gain some valuable experience, even with a dimmer spotlight than NXT and WWE. At Full Sail University, opportunities were not abundant. She will at least be showcased in this indy promotion.
Triple H Conference Call Notes
4 of 5
Ahead of NXT TakeOver: Respect, Triple H spoke to wrestling media members via a conference call (h/t Wrestling Inc and Forbes).
The juiciest piece of info is that he said he is open to working with New Japan Pro Wrestling again in the future. That's something that would have been unheard of in the past. NXT, though, continues to break ground and do things its own way.
A relationship with NJPW would mean the chance for huge names from Japan working with NXT's best, a boon for both interest in the product and experience for the prospects.
Triple H also mentioned that naming the show "Respect" was a nod to Dusty Rhodes, as well as the women in the main event. He said Vince McMahon enjoyed NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn and is looking forward to the next event.
We also got a peek into his mindset when he talked the difference between the main roster and NXT. The Game told Forbes, "If NXT is punk and heavy Metal and hip-hop—and more specific to those genres—WWE is more pop music."
Triple H was highly complimentary of EVOLVE during the call. He talked up how the company presents its talent and tells its stories. The indy promotion responded.
As PWInsider noted, World Wrestling Network Live President Sal Hamaoui said, "Having an industry leader like Triple H say those things about EVOLVE helps push us forward."
The more congeniality we see between these groups, the better. That opens the door for more of a working relationship between them, one that could include talent exchanges and perhaps some form of joint shows.
Tough Enough Contestant Joins 'Total Divas' Cast
5 of 5Amanda Saccomanno's career is moving along at a good clip. She will go from just missing out on winning this year's Tough Enough competition to now being a part of WWE's heavily-promoted reality show.
WWE announced (h/t PWInsider) that Saccomanno will be on the next season of Total Divas. The announcement also revealed that she will be known as Mandy.
Eva Marie is proof of how much power that show has. She jumped to the main roster soon after joining the company thanks to the exposure from Total Divas. JoJo Offerman, meanwhile, earned a spot as a NXT announcer after a stint on the reality show.
WWE continuing to sign and showcase models like Saccomanno is a sign that the ongoing "Divas Revolution" doesn't necessarily mean the company is making a full commitment to stronger wrestlers in the women's division.
