Boom Herron to Bills: Latest Contract Details, Comments and Reaction
Battling issues at running back, the Buffalo Bills signed Dan "Boom" Herron to their roster Tuesday.
Chris Brown of Bills.com reported Herron's deal with Buffalo after the 26-year-old had a workout with the team Tuesday. The report also mentions that tight end MarQueis Gray was placed on injured reserve to make room for Herron.
The Bills have been one of the NFL's best running teams this season, averaging 128.3 yards per game on the ground. That's not a surprise considering head coach Rex Ryan's desire to win with defense and wearing out opponents on the ground, as well as offensive coordinator Greg Roman's resume from San Francisco.

However, Buffalo has had a hard time keeping running backs healthy. LeSean McCoy could miss three to four weeks with a hamstring tear, per Fox Sports' Mike Garafolo. Karlos Williams, who leads the team with 226 rushing yards and three touchdowns, suffered a concussion in Week 4, per Howard Simon of WGR 550.
Herron has never carried the ball more than 78 times in a season, but he did have his best year in 2014 with the Indianapolis Colts. The former sixth-round pick averaged 4.5 yards per carry during the regular season and had two rushing touchdowns in the playoffs.
The Bills may just be looking for a stopgap player who can take the field until Williams returns, but given how long McCoy could be out, Herron should receive plenty of chances to show what he can do and catch on the rest of this season, whether it is in Buffalo or somewhere else.
There's not a better situation for Herron to be in, because of Ryan's knack for running the ball, so it's on him to take advantage of things when his number gets called.
