Chelsea Transfer News: Latest on Radamel Falcao and Yacine Brahimi Rumours

Rob BlanchetteOct 4, 2015

Radamel Falcao's time in the Premier League might be over with rumours Chelsea have already decided not to sign the Colombian superstar on a permanent deal.

The striker started for the Blues in their shock 3-1 home defeat against Southampton on Saturday, and provided very little threat for manager Jose Mourinho.

Steve Stammers of the Mirror has now written the Special One has decided against keeping the former Manchester United loanee, who failed to shine at Old Trafford last term.

The 29-year-old was brought to Stamford Bridge to add cover and competition for Diego Costa, but the player has looked ineffective, and a shadow of his former predatory self.

United opted against giving Falcao a deal to stay at the club in the summer, and Mourinho is now finding out the reasons for that decision.

El Tigre scored just four times for the Red Devils in 26 matches in 2014-15, and he couldn't provide the team with the form he once produced at Porto and Atletico Madrid, where he proved to be one of the most lethal strikers in the world.

Falcao has one goal from his seven Premier League matches for Chelsea since his move, but six of these appearances have come from the bench, per WhoScored.com.

Chris Wheeler of the Daily Mail outlined Chelsea's commitment to Falcao after his summer loan signing, highlighting the Blues were to pay the player significantly less wages than his £285,000-per-week salary at United.

Wheeler also spoke about the player's lack of physical verve when Chelsea faced off against Arsenal in the Community Shield: "The effort is still there, no doubt about that, but Falcao resembles a rag doll on the pitch, bouncing off opponents and never quite at ease with the physicality of the Premier League. Laurent Koscielny had little trouble snuffing out the threat for Arsenal."

It seems Falcao's dream of succeeding in English football will evaporate at the end of his tenure in west London, forcing a return to the continent to ply his trade.

Mourinho "Desperate" For Algerian Ace

As the rumour mill churns about what happens next at Stamford Bridge after yet another Premier League loss, Mourinho is looking toward one of his former teams to provide him his next target.

Spanish media outlet Fichajes.net (h/t Tom Olver of Metro) say the Special One wants Porto's Yacine Brahimi to revamp his midfield, with the player featuring for his club in their defeat of the Blues in the Champions League.

The 25-year-old made his name at Granada in Spain, appearing 62 times in La Liga for the Spanish club from 2012-2014 before making the leap to Portugal, according to WhoScored.com

He appeared for his country at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, and could now be on the verge of a big-money move to west London.

Chelsea are currently in a bad place; their form is in tatters after a disastrous start to their campaign. Mourinho must find a way of kick-starting the Blues' season, and that will surely involve bringing in new recruits in January.

Brahimi is a promising talent, but it's questionable whether he is of a sufficient standard to address Chelsea's current midfield woes.

Blues fans will want to see marquee signings brought to Stamford Bridge in the coming months, but to achieve this in the January transfer window is almost impossible, with the top players cup-tied in the Champions League.
