Jones Active for Week 7

Sunday, Oct. 25

The Redskins did not list Jones among their inactives for their game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Latest on Jones' Practice Status Ahead of Week 7

Thursday, Oct. 21

Ben Standig of CSN Mid-Atlantic reported Jones was a full participant in practice on Thursday.

Jones' Return Will Provide Added Dimension to Redskins Offense

Jones, 22, burst onto the scene in Week 2 against the St. Louis Rams, rushing 19 times for 123 yards and two touchdowns, while also nabbing three passes for another 23 yards. He was expected to be the backup for Alfred Morris—the incumbent starter—this season, but Jones carved out a niche for himself on Washington's offense.

A big, bruising back, Jones (6'2", 231 lbs) gave Washington the option to rotate between him and Morris and wear down opposing defenses throughout the game. The team's center, Kory Lichtensteiger, broke down that one-two punch after Jones' breakout performance, per John Keim of ESPN:

"

With Alfred, you have a very physical back, someone who can truck you. A lot of times the complement to that is a finesse guy. But when you bring Matt in, it's more of the same—downhill, run you over, physical running. So the physicality of those two guys is awesome to see, and it gives us encouragement and motivation to block for them.

"

Still, Jones has been a valued addition to Washington's offense in 2015, so getting him back healthy and pounding away at opposing defenses will be key to the team's aspirations for a division crown.
