Roberts Shut Down for Season

The Redskins confirmed they placed Roberts on injured reserve. Tarik El-Bashir of CSN Washington reported Roberts will have surgery on his meniscus, adding the extent of the injury isn't known at this time.
Redskins Have Depth to Overcome Roberts' Absence
Throughout his career, Roberts has been a solid receiver who puts up decent numbers and keeps drives alive with critical first downs. He had 453 receiving yards and two touchdown catches last year for Washington and is not far removed from a 2012 campaign in which he tallied 759 receiving yards and five touchdown catches as a member of the Arizona Cardinals.
Washington will miss his versatility as a kick returner. Fortunately for the team, it still has a number of other options in the passing game. Rookie Jamison Crowder has notably passed Roberts on the depth chart this year and has 49 receptions to date.
DeSean Jackson dealt with hamstring issues of his own earlier this year, but he is a vertical threat when healthy with enough speed to create separation and change games with a single play. He boasts four different seasons with more than 1,000 receiving yards, including last year when he posted 1,169 for Washington.
Pierre Garcon is another veteran in his eighth season who gave Washington a combined 2,098 receiving yards and eight touchdown catches the past two years coming into the 2015 campaign.
Tight end Jordan Reed is a high-upside youngster in his third season who is actually Washington's leading receiver. He ought to see even more targets until Roberts heals.
Washington has the pieces to keep its aerial assault intact without Roberts, but it still needs all its possible depth if it plans on retaining its current lead in the NFC East down the stretch.
