How Ngata Injury Impacts Lions DT Depth
In his first season with the Lions, Ngata's stay in Detroit has already been hampered by injuries. He was placed on the non-football injury list with a hamstring ailment in August and dealt with a shoulder injury following Week 1's loss to the San Diego Chargers.
The team brought him in from Baltimore via trade to replace Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley, but playing inside in a 4-3 alignment has been an adjustment for Ngata after years of being a nose tackle in a 3-4 defense. Ngata still remains a stout run defender who appears to enjoy the additional pass-rushing freedom.
"I definitely have a chip on my shoulder because I got traded," Ngata said, per Tim Twentyman of DetroitLions.com. "Somebody didn't want me, and going to a place that wants you is pretty awesome. So, definitely, I feel like I have a different attitude and mentality towards it, a trying-to-prove-someone-wrong kind of thing."
With Ngata returning to the lineup, Detroit's defensive line is a bit more fearsome, despite the high-profile departures of Suh and Fairley in the offseason.
