Balotelli Accepts Speeding Charge
Monday, Sept. 7
Italian news agency ANSA confirmed the story about Balotelli's speeding after local newspaper Il Giornale di Brescia (h/t Ben Gladwell of ESPN FC) had initially broke the news. It’s claimed Balotelli was on the road in a residential area with a 50 kph speed limit but was driving his Lamborghini over 90 kph.
As noted by Football Italia, according to Il Giornale di Brescia, Balotelli accepted the charge calmly, insisting he did not realise what the speed limit was; now he will be suspended from driving until local authorities make a final decision on the matter.
The incident is said to have occurred in the days following his loan move back to Milan on the Via Branze, near a region close to where the Italy international grew up.
Balotelli does have history when it comes to getting into trouble behind the wheel. As reported by David Wood of the MailOnline, he was banned from driving for 28 days and fined £800 back in May after being caught going 175 kph (109 mph) in his Ferrari on the M62 motorway.
The challenge for the forward looking ahead is to stay out of the press for off-field matters and keep his name on the back pages for all the right reasons.
