LeBron James Responds to NBA Delaying Schedule Release Date Amid Free Agency Rumors in Video
Star forward LeBron James won't rush his free-agency decision for anyone, even NBA commissioner Adam Silver.
During a special live episode of The Shop for Fanatics Fest, James called it "crazy" that Silver said the NBA is delaying the release date of the 2026-27 season schedule until he decides where he will play. The 41-year-old made it clear that he won't be revealing his next landing spot during the event.
"We don't have an announcement to make just yet, guys," he said.
James also recorded a live episode of his Mind the Game podcast with Indiana Pacers star guard Tyrese Haliburton at Fanatics Fest on Thursday, and he avoided revealing where he plans to play his 24th season in the NBA.
While speaking at a CNBC event, Silver candidly admitted that James' decision will affect some of the key dates on the schedule.
"We have to finish up the schedule and where LeBron plays affects the schedule... It will influence how we set the schedule — opening week, Christmas," Silver said. "So I need him to make a decision."
Still, James seems content to take his time. ESPN's Shams Charania reported on Thursday's episode of The Pat McAfee Show that the four-time NBA champion was "getting closer and closer to making a decision," and he named the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, Golden State Warriors and Philadelphia 76ers as the top candidates to land him.
It's no secret that the 2026-27 season could be James' last, so it makes sense that he would take all the time he needs before choosing his next team. However, Silver and the rest of the NBA will have to put their plans on hold while he continues evaluating his options.
