Jonathan Kuminga's Agent Reveals Why Star Signed Wolves Contract Over Lakers, Bulls, More in Video

NBA forward Jonathan Kuminga's agent, Aaron Turner, revealed in an interview on Run It Back why his client signed with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Kuminga, who turns 24 on Oct. 6, has played five NBA seasons: a four-plus-year campaign with the Golden State Warriors and a couple of months with the Atlanta Hawks after the Dubs traded him there last February. He averaged 12.2 points on 46.3 percent shooting, 5.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 23.1 minutes per game last season.

Kuminga has a great opportunity with the Timberwolves, who should be a solid Western Conference contender once again. Minnesota made the Western Conference Finals in 2024 and 2025 and the second round in 2026 and could be in line for another playoff run yet again after trading for Charlotte Hornets point guard LaMelo Ball.

This could also be a one-and-done situation. Kuminga signed a two-year, $12.4 million contract with a player option for 2027-28, so he could be entering free agency again next offseason.

Kuminga had a much more lucrative deal on the table via the Warriors, but it appears his camp has eyes on next offseason in hopes of a better free agency haul.

On the bright side, this play may work out. Kuminga, who could very well start at forward, may break out in Minnesota, enjoy great success and set himself up for a lucrative deal.

However, Kuminga's former teammate, Draymond Green, pointed out a potential pitfall as well.

Former NBA guard Gilbert Arenas also wasn't seeing it.

The Timberwolves were already one of the league's most fascinating teams to watch next season after adding Ball. Still, now that's the case even more so after adding Kuminga, whose gamble on himself will be one to watch moving forward. He absolutely has the potential to win this one, but it's a risk nevertheless.
