Sam Burns Holds Steady, Wins 1st Major Title
2 of 3
Few were playing better golf than Burns on Saturday, and it's clear the Louisiana native is getting comfortable across the pond.
Burns birdied four times on the front nine before adding two more on the back nine. His only error was a bogey on the ninth hole, but he otherwise played clean golf on Saturday.
The 29-year-old has had a complete turnaround from his opening round, where he carded four bogeys and just one birdie. Since then, he's collected 14 birdies with just one bogey.
Assuming he carries his momentum into the final round, he should leave Royal Birkdale with his first major title.
Ryan Fox Puts Pressure on Burns Late
3 of 3
Burns has plenty of momentum, plus the lead, heading into the final round, but Ryan Fox hit a new level in the third round to catch up to him.
Fox, who finished two-over par in Round 1, climbed up the leaderboards on Saturday as he collected nine birdies and just one bogey on the day, finishing with a round-best 62.
His eight-under 62 in Round 3 tied the lowest men's major round record.
Fox will be feeling himself heading into the final round, and that should lead to him putting some pressure on Burns.
Like Burns, Fox is seeking a major title, and with some of the bigger names further down on the leaderboard, now is the time for either to get their first.
