Scottie Scheffler Misses Scottish Open Cut, Snaps Historic Streak Ahead of Open Championship

Adam WellsJul 10, 2026

Scottie Scheffler's weekend is wide open for the first time in a long time after he missed the cut at the Scottish Open.

The 30-year-old had made the cut in 78 consecutive tournaments dating back to August 2022, but his streak came to an end after shooting a 72 on Friday that dropped him to two-over par on the round and kept him stuck at even par for the week. The cut line is projected at two-under par.

While Scheffler's streak is impressive, Shane Bacon of CBS Golf and Joe Musso of CBS HQ did point out 25 of the 78 tournaments during this stretch were no-cut events.

Musso added this will also snap Scheffler's streak of 35 consecutive top-25 finishes, which was three away from tying Tiger Woods' all-time record of 38 from 1999 to 2001.

The last time Scheffler finished outside the top 25 prior to the Scottish Open was the 2024 BMW Championship when he tied for 33rd.

Per Chris Cwik of Yahoo Sports, Scheffler's streak of 78 consecutive cuts is the fifth-longest in PGA Tour history. Woods (142), Bryon Nelson (113), Jack Nicklaus (105) and Hale Irwin (86) are the only players ahead of him.

Scheffler opened the tournament looking like a potential contender with a 68, putting him three shots behind Rory McIlroy for the lead.

Starting his second round on the back nine, Scheffler struggled out of the gate and wasn't able to recover. He was two over after three holes due to back-to-back bogeys on 11 and 12, with the latter being a par-five.

It was the first time Scheffler failed to make par or better on a par five since the first round of the U.S. Open on June 18, a streak of nine rounds.

Scheffler can use the extra time off to prepare for the Open Championship that starts on Thursday and will be held at Royal Birkdale Golf Club. He won the event last year at Royal Portrush by four strokes.

This marks the first time that Royal Birkdale has hosted the Open Championship since 2017 when Jordan Spieth won.
