Match Results: There was no shortage of fireworks in Egypt's 1-1 draw with Iran. Within the first 15 minutes of the match, Egypt took the lead, Iran drew a penalty, had that penalty saved, and still managed to equalize just three minutes later through Ramin Rezaeian. After an Iran winner was disallowed in stoppage time, things only got crazier. But that Egypt failed to win and Belgium won by three goals means that Egypt dropped to second in Group G, while Iran finished third.
Belgium, for their part, finally had their first goal scored by one of their own players at the 2026 World Cup thanks to Leandro Trossard's opener against New Zealand just before the half hour mark. The final score? 5-1 in favor of the Red Devils, who ended the evening first in Group G. Pinned deep for so much of the game, New Zealand simply couldn't threaten the other direction and end up bottom of the group.
Round of 32 Outlook: As the winner of Group G, Belgium will play a third-place team from one of the following groups: A, I, or J. The date and time are confirmed, though the opponent is not:
🇧🇪Belgium vs. TBD (Wednesday, July 1 at 4 p.m. ET, Seattle - FS1)
Egypt will play Australia, the runner-up from Group D:
🇪🇬 Egypt vs. Australia 🇦🇺 (Friday, July 3 at 2 p.m. ET, Dallas - FOX)
Iran, who finished third in Group G, don't yet know their future. They still have a chance to qualify for the Round of 32 as one of the eight best third-place teams.
