Perry Minasian Fired as Angels GM After 6 MLB Seasons Amid 2026 Struggles

The Los Angeles Angels fired general manager Perry Minasian and brought in John Mozeliak as interim general manager, the team announced Friday.

Mozeliak will also operate as a baseball operations consultant for Los Angeles, overseeing the club's day-to-day operations amid the search for a new full-time general manager.

The Angels currently sit at the bottom of the American League West standings with a 34-48 record.

Club president Molly Jolly thanked Minasian for his tenure with the organization.

"Perry has been a valued leader who worked tirelessly over the last six years to strengthen our baseball operations department," Jolly said in a team statement. "I am grateful for his dedication, insight and many contributions to our organization."

Minasian was initially hired by Los Angeles in Nov. 2020, as the team posted a 392-500 record throughout his tenure with the organization. The Angels didn't make a postseason appearance across that span.

Los Angeles accumulated a franchise-record 99 losses in 2024, following it up with a 2025 campaign in which the team made a slight improvement by finishing at 72-90.

The Angels have taken another step back this year and chose to part ways with Minasian before he finished out the final season of his current contract, though.

They'll now turn to Mozeliak, who previously spent 30 years with the St. Louis Cardinals. This included a stint as the Cardinals' general manager from 2007 to 2025.
