Canada and Olympic Hockey Friday Group Results Ahead of Men's KO Bracket
All of Canada's stars shined in its second victory at the 2026 Winter Olympics on Friday.
Connor McDavid, Macklin Celebrini, Sidney Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon all scored in the 5-1 win over Switzerland.
The win essentially gave Canada first place in Group A. The Canadians are expected to roll on Sunday against France, the worst team in the group.
While Canada's place in the quarterfinals seems safe, the race to be the Group B winner is wide open going into Saturday.
Slovakia leads Group B, but Sweden and Finland each have three points. Any one of those three teams could take the top spot and the automatic spot in the quarterfinals that comes with it.
Group A
1 of 2
1 Canada (2-0; 6 points)
2. Switzerland (1-1; 3 points)
3. Czechia (1-1; 3 points)
4. France (0-2: 0 points)
Friday's Results
Czechia 6, France 3
Canada 5, Switzerland 1
Canada's stars were on full display again on Friday.
McDavid, MacKinnon, Celebrini and Crosby all found the back of the net in the 5-1 victory over Switzerland.
MacKinnon and Celebrini each have two goals in the tournament. Canada's scored 10 total goals through two games.
Canada is expected to blow out France on Sunday to close out the top spot in Group A.
Czechia struggled a bit with France. The Czechs have up three goals in the first six minutes of the second period on Friday. Czechia rebounded to score the final three goals and earn a 6-3 win.
Czechia and Switzerland will play on Sunday for knockout-round seeding. They are both in contention to be the top-placed second-place team. That position comes with an automatic spot in the quarterfinals.
Group B
2 of 2
1 Slovakia (2-0; 6 points)
2. Finland (1-1; 3 points)
3. Sweden (1-1; 3 points)
4. Italy (0-2; 0 points)
Friday's Results
Finland 4, Sweden 1
Slovakia 3, Italy 2
Finland rebounded from its shock defeat to Slovakia with a 4-1 rivalry win over Sweden.
The Finns scored twice in the opening period and never relinquished the lead against a Sweden team that was favored to win Group B.
Slovakia won a tight battle with Italy to move to 2-0, but it still has to fight for the top spot in the group.
Sweden-Slovakia on Saturday is now arguably the most meaningful game of the group stage.
A Slovakia win of any kind makes it the group winner. A Sweden regulation win combined with a Finland regulation win over Italy would set up a three-way tie at the top of Group B.
Goal differential would be the tiebreaker that determines the group winner if Slovakia, Sweden and Finland all have six points.
Slovakia owns a +4 goal differential, while Sweden and Finland are both at zero.
Sweden and Slovakia play first on Saturday so Finland will be aware of how much it has to beat Italy by in the second game, if Sweden wins the first match.
