Marco Odermatt Seeks Elusive Gold in Giant Slalom
2 of 2
Switzerland's Marco Odermatt has already settled for a bronze medal in these 2026 Winter Olympics and will seek to win the elusive gold in the Giant Slalom event Saturday.
He admitted frustration following the bronze in the men's Super G, telling Barron's, "It's great to have another medal. That was the goal, but sure, the big goal was to win gold."
He added further gravity to Saturday's event, stating, "It's another race. Another last chance for me to win gold."
The best skier in Saturday's race, Odermatt should be considered the favorite. Whether the mounting, self-inflicted pressure of winning gold will ultimately cause him to falter instead of thrive remains to be seen but he has the skills to emerge with the medal that has eluded him thus far in the games.
He won the event in Beaver Creek and Adelboden, precursors for his appearance in Milano Cortina. If he can overcome the likes of Norway's Henrik Kristofferson and Atle Lie McGrath, Odermatt will stand at the top of the podium.
Prediction: Odermatt wins the gold
