Grading Every MLB Team's 2019 Draft Haul 6 Years Later

Joel ReuterDec 25, 2025

A few years ago, Bleacher Report did a series of articles looking back on recent MLB draft classes and grading each team's draft haul in hindsight.

It was decided at that time that at least six years needed to pass before a draft class can be properly assessed, giving prospects enough time to climb the minor-league ranks, reach the majors and establish themselves at the highest level.

With another year passed, it's time to add a class to the mix.

The 2019 draft class has been one of the best in recent memory, with Adley Rutschman (No. 1 overall) and Bobby Witt Jr. (No. 2) both developing into franchise players, while Riley Greene (No. 5), CJ Abrams (No. 6), Corbin Carroll (No. 16), George Kirby (No. 20) and Michael Busch (No. 31) have also hit as first-round selections.

Outside the first round, Gunnar Henderson (second round, No. 42 overall) and Hunter Brown (fifth round, No. 166 overall) have both developed into All-Stars, while Kerry Carpenter (19th round, No. 562 overall) has been a diamond in the rough.

Each team's complete draft class was given a grade of A, B, C, D or F based on the amount of MLB talent produced, success of first-round picks and how prospects were used in other ways, like trades. Unsigned players were not factored toward a team's grade and were not noted in this article with the exception of unsigned first-round selections.

If you missed the previous years in this series, the links can be found here: 200620072008200920102011201220132014201520162017 and 2018.

Arizona Diamondbacks

1 of 30
MLB: AUG 28 Diamondbacks at Brewers
Corbin Carroll

First-Round Picks: OF Corbin Carroll (1-16), LHP Blake Walston (1-26), RHP Brennan Malone (1-33), RHP Drey Jameson (1-34)

MLB Players: RHP Ryne Nelson (2-56), LHP Tommy Henry (2-74), OF Dominic Fletcher (2-75), 1B Tristin English (3-93), LHP Andrew Saalfrank (6-182), OF Dominic Canzone (8-242), RHP Austin Pope (15-452)

Only Bobby Witt Jr. (21.7) has produced more career WAR among players from the 2019 draft class than Corbin Carroll (15.7), who quickly developed into the face of the franchise for the D-backs after winning 2023 NL Rookie of the Year honors.

Starter Ryne Nelson (23 GS, 3.39 ERA, 154.0 IP) and reliever Andrew Saalfrank (28 G, 3 SV, 1.24 ERA, 29.0 IP) were also productive members of the 2025 pitching staff, while outfielder Dominic Canzone enjoyed a breakout season in Seattle.

Athletics

Philadelphia Phillies v Athletics
Logan Davidson

First-Round Pick: SS Logan Davidson (1-29)

MLB Players: C Kyle McCann (4-134), C Drew Millas (7-224), 3B Dustin Harris (11-344), LHP Brady Basso (16-494)

Shortstop Logan Davidson posted a .933 OPS with 42 home runs and 142 RBI in 187 games as a three-year starter at Clemson, but his development stalled in the upper levels of the minors and he spent time in the Athletics, Astros and Angels organizations in 2025.

The five players who reached the majors from this draft class have produced a combined 1.5 WAR, though Brady Basso and Dustin Harris are both still part of the 40-man roster with a chance to add to that total in 2026.

Grade: F

Atlanta Braves

3 of 30
MLB: SEP 08 Cubs at Braves
Michael Harris II

First-Round Picks: C Shea Langeliers (1-9), SS Braden Shewmake (1-21)

MLB Players: OF Michael Harris II (3-98), RHP Tanner Gordon (6-187), RHP Darius Vines (7-217), SS Vaughn Grissom (11-337), RHP Tyler Owens (13-397), RHP Joey Estes (16-487)

Michael Harris II had a down year in 2025, but he was still a 2.2-WAR player, and through four seasons in the majors he has racked up 14.0 WAR while taking home 2022 NL Rookie of the Year honors.

While their impact has been less direct, the front office also utilized Shea Langeliers and Joey Estes as key pieces in the package to acquire first baseman Matt Olson from the Athletics, while Vaughn Grissom was flipped to the Red Sox for Chris Sale in one of the most lopsided trades in recent memory.

Grade: A

TOP NEWS

Los Angeles Angels v Chicago White Sox

Baltimore Orioles

4 of 30
Baltimore Orioles v Houston Astros
Adley Rutschman and Gunnar Henderson

First-Round Pick: C Adley Rutschman (1-1)

MLB Players: SS Gunnar Henderson (2-42), OF Kyle Stowers (2-71), SS Joey Ortiz (4-108), IF Darell Hernaiz (5-138), C Maverick Handley (6-168), RHP Connor Gillispie (9-258), RHP Kade Strowd (12-348)

There have been 11 All-Stars so far from the 2019 draft class, and three of them were part of Baltimore's draft haul, as Adley Rutschman and Gunnar Henderson both made immediate impacts in Baltimore, while Kyle Stowers enjoyed a breakout 2025 season for the Marlins.

Shortstop Joey Ortiz was also the prospect centerpiece of the deal to acquire Corbin Burnes from the Brewers, and he has taken over as Milwaukee's starting shortstop since Willy Adames departed in free agency.

Grade: A

Boston Red Sox

5 of 30
Boston Red Sox v Athletics
Chris Murphy

First-Round Pick: None

MLB Players: OF Matthew Lugo (2-69), RHP Ryan Zeferjahn (3-107), LHP Chris Murphy (6-197), LHP Brandon Walter (26-797), RHP Bradley Blalock (32-977)

The Red Sox first selection was dropped 10 spots as a penalty for exceeding the luxury tax threshold by more than $40 million, and they whiffed on University of Arizona shortstop Cam Cannon with their first pick at No. 43 overall.

Ryan Zeferjahn and Matthew Lugo ended up being part of the same trade package at the 2024 deadline to acquire rental reliever Luis García from the Angels, and Zeferjahn logged a 4.74 ERA and 11.5 K/9 in 62 appearances as a rookie in 2025.

Grade: D

Chicago Cubs

6 of 30
Chicago Cubs v Pittsburgh Pirates
Porter Hodge

First-Round Pick: RHP Ryan Jensen (1-27)

MLB Players: LHP DJ Herz (8-252), RHP Hunter Bigge (12-372), RHP Porter Hodge (13-402), RHP Bryan King (30-912)

The Cubs took college players with their first five selections, but that "safe" strategy did not yield any big league talent, nor did the above-slot, $950,000 bonus they gave prep catcher Ethan Hearn in the sixth round.

Reliever Bryan King was claimed off waivers by the Astros prior to the 2023 season, and he has been a staple in the Houston bullpen the last two seasons, posting a 2.67 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, 9.6 K/9 and 27 holds in 96 games.

Grade: D

Chicago White Sox

7 of 30
Chicago White Sox v Kansas City Royals
Andrew Vaughn

First-Round Pick: 1B Andrew Vaughn (1-3)

MLB Players: RHP McKinley Moore (14-410), RHP Caleb Freeman (15-440), LHP Sammy Peralta (18-530), RHP Declan Cronin (36-1,070)

One of the most productive collegiate hitters of the past decade, Andrew Vaughn hit .374/.495/.688 with 50 home runs and 163 RBI in 160 games during his three seasons at the University of California, and he was viewed as big league ready coming out of the draft.

He hit .235/.309/.396 with 15 home runs and 48 RBI in 127 games as a rookie in 2021 while learning to play the outfield on the fly as José Abreu was occupying first base, but never took a step forward in the years that followed. He was flipped to the Brewers this past summer in exchange for Aaron Civale, and saw his production spike immediately with the change of scenery.

Grade: D

Cincinnati Reds

8 of 30
Pittsburgh Pirates v Cincinnati Reds
Nick Lodolo

First-Round Pick: LHP Nick Lodolo (1-7)

MLB Players: OF Rece Hinds (2-49), 2B Tyler Callihan (3-85), LHP Evan Kravetz (5-144), RHP Graham Ashcraft (6-174), C Eric Yang (7-204), OF TJ Hopkins (9-264)

Nick Lodolo did not sign with the Pirates as the No. 41 overall pick in the 2016 draft, and three years later he was the first pitcher selected in the 2019 draft at No. 7 overall following a solid three-year run at TCU. He tossed a career-high 156.2 innings in 2025, posting a 3.33 ERA and 1.08 WHIP with 156 strikeouts.

Sixth-round pick Graham Ashcraft made 60 starts over his first three seasons in the majors before shifting to the bullpen in 2025, and he ended up emerging as one of the team's top setup arms with a 3.99 ERA and 23 holds in 62 appearances.

Grade: B

Cleveland Guardians

9 of 30
Wild Card Series - Detoit Tigers v Cleveland Guardians - Game Two
Hunter Gaddis

First-Round Pick: RHP Daniel Espino (1-24)

MLB Players: RHP Hunter Gaddis (5-160), RHP Xzavion Curry (7-220), OF Will Brennan (8-250), RHP Matt Waldron (18-550), RHP Kevin Kelly (19-580), RHP Nic Enright (20-610)

Daniel Espino was one of the top pitching prospects in baseball following a 2021 season where he logged a 3.73 ERA and 152 strikeouts in 91.2 innings. However, injuries have limited him to 23.2 total innings in the four years since that standout performance, and he enters 2026 trying to get his career back on track.

The Guardians have done a terrific job finding under-the-radar pitching talent on Day 2 and Day 3 of the draft, and this class is no exception as Hunter Gaddis has been a terrific setup man in Cleveland, while Matt Waldron (Padres) and Kevin Kelly (Rays) have both found success elsewhere.

Grade: C

Colorado Rockies

10 of 30
Colorado Rockies v Houston Astros
Brenton Doyle

First-Round Pick: 1B Michael Toglia (1-23)

MLB Players: 3B Aaron Schunk (2-62), RHP Karl Kauffmann (2-77), OF Brenton Doyle (4-129), RHP Gavin Hollowell (6-189), OF Isaac Collins (9-279), IF Christian Koss (12-369), RHP Blair Calvo (23-699)

Michael Toglia had a 25-homer season for the Rockies in 2024 as their primary first baseman, but his extreme strikeout numbers kept him from settling in as a long-term piece and he spent much of 2025 in the minors before he was non-tendered in November.

However, the Rockies did hit on outfielder Brenton Doyle in the fourth round, and he has a pair of Gold Gloves and a 4.0-WAR season in 2024 on his resume. The 27-year-old is controllable through the 2029 season, and has been the subject of some trade speculation this winter.

Grade: C

Detroit Tigers

11 of 30
Houston Astros v Detroit Tigers
Kerry Carpenter and Riley Greene

First-Round Pick: OF Riley Greene (1-5)

MLB Players: 3B Andre Lipcius (3-83), SS Ryan Kreidler (4-112), OF Kerry Carpenter (19-562), RHP Brendan White (26-772), RHP Beau Brieske (27-802), LHP Kolton Ingram (37-1,102)

Riley Greene (120 OPS+, 36 HR, 111 RBI) and Kerry Carpenter (114 OPS+, 26 HR, 62 RBI) were two of the most productive hitters in the Tigers lineup in 2025, and they have developed into two of the better offensive players in the entire 2019 draft class.

The Tigers also got some value out of 27th-round pick Beau Brieske, who has a 4.14 ERA with 16 holds in 108 appearances over the past four seasons. He is one of 11 pitchers from the 2019 draft who have reached 100 appearances in the big leagues to this point.

Grade: A

Houston Astros

12 of 30
Seattle Mariners v Houston Astros
Hunter Brown

First-Round Pick: C Korey Lee (1-32)

MLB Players: IF Grae Kessinger (2-68), RHP Hunter Brown (5-166), RHP Blair Henley (7-226), RHP Peyton Battenfield (9-286), C CJ Stubbs (10-316), RHP Ryan Gusto (11-346)

With all due respect to Nick Lodolo (Reds), George Kirby (Mariners) and Ryan Pepiot (Rays), right-hander Hunter Brown has been the best pitcher to come out of the 2019 draft class. After a breakout 2024 season, he took another step forward this year with a 2.43 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 206 strikeouts in 185.1 innings to finish third in AL Cy Young balloting.

Ryan Gusto ended up playing a bigger role than expected in 2025, tossing 86 innings with a 4.92 ERA for the Astros over 14 starts and 10 relief appearances before he was traded to the Marlins as part of the package to acquire outfielder Jesús Sánchez.

Grade: A

Kansas City Royals

13 of 30
Kansas City Royals v Athletics
Bobby Witt Jr.

First-Round Pick: SS Bobby Witt Jr. (1-2)

MLB Players: RHP Alec Marsh (2-70), 2B Michael Massey (4-109), OF John Rave (5-139), RHP Noah Murdock (7-199), LHP Anthony Veneziano (10-289), 1B Vinnie Pasquantino (11-319), OF Tyler Tolbert (13-379)

Bobby Witt Jr. is already the best homegrown player in Royals history not named George Brett, and with an 11-year, $288.7 million extension on the books he will be the face of the Royals for the foreseeable future.

The fact that they also landed Vinnie Pasquantino, Michael Massey and Alec Marsh in this draft class makes it arguably the best draft haul in franchise history, and one that has truly reshaped the organization.

Grade: A

Los Angeles Angels

14 of 30
Los Angeles Angels v Texas Rangers
Jack Kochanowicz

First-Round Pick: SS Will Wilson (1-15)

MLB Players: 2B Kyren Paris (2-55), RHP Jack Kochanowicz (3-92), RHP Davis Daniel (7-211), RHP Zac Kristofak (14-421)

Bryson Stott (No. 14 overall) and Will Wilson (No. 15 overall) were the top college shortstops in the 2019 draft class, with Wilson coming off a junior season at NC State where he batted .339/.429/.665 with 16 home runs. He was packaged along with Zack Cozart in a salary-dump move that sent both players to the Giants for a player to be named, and saw his first MLB action with the Guardians in 2025.

Kyren Paris and Jack Kochanowicz have both shown some intriguing flashes in the majors, but have yet to establish themselves at that level, leaving this as a disappointing overall draft class for the time being.

Grade: D

Los Angeles Dodgers

15 of 30
Los Angeles Dodgers v Pittsburgh Pirates
Michael Busch

First-Round Picks: 3B Kody Hoese (1-25), 1B Michael Busch (1-31)

MLB Players: RHP Ryan Pepiot (3-102), RHP Jack Little (5-161), RHP Nick Robertson (7-221), OF Jonny DeLuca (25-761)

Kody Hoese and Michael Busch were both extremely productive college hitters, though their pro careers have gone in opposite directions, with Busch establishing himself as an everyday player and Hoese stalling out in the upper levels of the minors.

With Freddie Freeman blocking his path, Busch was traded to the Cubs for current top prospects Zyhir Hope and Jackson Ferris, while fellow 2019 draft picks Ryan Pepiot and Jonny DeLuca were used to acquire Tyler Glasnow from the Rays prior to the 2024 season.

Grade: B

Miami Marlins

16 of 30
Mesa Solar Sox v Glendale Desert Dogs
JJ Bleday

First-Round Picks: OF JJ Bleday (1-4), OF Kameron Misner (1-35)

MLB Players: SS Nasim Nuñez (2-46), OF Peyton Burdick (3-82), RHP Bryan Hoeing (7-201), RHP Anthony Maldonado (11-321), LHP Easton Lucas (14-411), LHP Andrew Nardi (16-471), OF Troy Johnston (17-501), RHP Jeff Lindgren (24-711), LHP Josh Simpson (32-951)

The Marlins found 11 big leaguers in their 2019 draft class, though there is no impact player in the group, and they have logged a combined 3.4 WAR during their time in the majors.

JJ Bleday flew up draft boards by hitting .347/.465/.701 with 27 home runs and 72 RBI during a breakout junior season at Vanderbilt, but he never found success in Miami and was eventually traded to the Athletics for AJ Puk. He had a 120 OPS+ and 20 home runs in 2024, but fell off drastically this year before being non-tendered in November.

Grade: C

Milwaukee Brewers

17 of 30
Milwaukee Brewers v Chicago Cubs - Game One
Ethan Small

First-Round Pick: LHP Ethan Small (1-28)

MLB Players: IF David Hamilton (8-253), LHP Paxton Schultz (14-433), 3B Cam Devanney (15-463)

Mississippi State left-hander Ethan Small pitched his way into the first-round conversation by going 10-2 with a 1.93 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 176 strikeouts in 107 innings in 2019. He reached Triple-A in his pro debut and looked like a potential rotation piece, but he has made just four big league appearances, and none since 2023.

Infielder David Hamilton has been a useful utility piece for the Red Sox the past two years, and he was traded to Boston in the deal to acquire Hunter Renfroe prior to the 2022 season.

Grade: D

Minnesota Twins

18 of 30
Athletics v Minnesota Twins
Matt Wallner

First-Round Picks: SS Keoni Cavaco (1-13), OF Matt Wallner (1-39)

MLB Players: 1B/OF Spencer Steer (3-90), RHP Sawyer Gipson-Long (6-179), RHP Casey Legumina (8-239), LHP Brent Headrick (9-269), RHP Cody Laweryson (14-419), RHP Louis Varland (15-449), IF Edouard Julien (18-539)

Keoni Cavaco was one of the biggest pop-up prospects heading into the 2019 draft on the strength of his tantalizing raw power, but the hit tool never came around and he spent 2025 playing indy ball.

Matt Wallner and Edouard Julien have both been solid, if inconsistent, contributors for the Twins offensively, while Spencer Steer has found success in Cincinnati after he was traded for Tyler Mahle. Hard-throwing Louis Varland has also developed into a quality late-inning reliever, and the Twins might end up regretting the 2025 deadline deal that sent him to Toronto.

Grade: B

New York Mets

19 of 30
Atlanta Braves v New York Mets
Brett Baty

First-Round Pick: IF Brett Baty (1-12)

MLB Players: OF Jake Mangum (4-118)

It took Brett Baty longer than expected to find his footing in the big leagues, but he finally turned a corner last season with a 111 OPS+ and 18 home runs in a 3.1-WAR campaign. He should be the everyday third baseman in 2026 after splitting his time between the hot corner and second base this year.

The only other player to reach the majors from their 40-player draft class so far has been outfielder Jake Mangum, and only after he was traded to the Rays. The speedy outfielder was on the move again this winter, going to the Pirates as part of the Brandon Lowe deal.

Grade: C

New York Yankees

20 of 30
New York Yankees v Chicago White Sox
Anthony Volpe

First-Round Pick: SS Anthony Volpe (1-30), LHP T.J. Sikkema (1-38)

MLB Players: IF Josh Smith (2-67), LHP Ken Waldichuk (5-165), RHP Hayden Wesneski (6-195), RHP Mitch Spence (10-315), IF Oliver Dunn (11-345),

Love him or hate him, Anthony Volpe has tallied 8.3 WAR and won a Gold Glove in three seasons as the Yankees everyday shortstop, and he is still only 24 years old. That's enough to make him one of the more successful selections at the back end of the 2019 first round.

Josh Smith (to the Rangers for Joey Gallo), Ken Waldichuk (to the Athletics for Frankie Montas) and Hayden Wesneski (to the Cubs for Scott Effross) were all utilized as trade chips, with Smith developing into an impact player in Texas while playing all over the field.

Grade: B

Philadelphia Phillies

21 of 30
MLB: SEP 25 Marlins at Phillies
Bryson Stott

First-Round Pick: 2B Bryson Stott (1-14)

MLB Players: LHP Erik Miller (4-120)

It's been quality over quantity for the Phillies draft class, as Bryson Stott moved quickly through the minors to emerge as the team's starting shortstop in 2022, then shifted to second base after Trea Turner was signed.

The UNLV product has averaged 26 doubles, 14 home runs, 66 RBI, 28 steals and 2.9 WAR over his four big league seasons, and with free agency approaching after the 2027 season, he could be an extension candidate.

Grade: C

Pittsburgh Pirates

22 of 30
2021 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game
Quinn Priester

First-Round Picks: RHP Quinn Priester (1-18), OF Sammy Siani (1-37)

MLB Players: 1B Matt Gorski (2-57), IF Jared Triolo (2-72), C/OF Blake Sabol (7-214)

Quinn Priester was a top prospect during his time in the Pittsburgh farm system, but struggled to a 6.46 ERA over 94.2 innings in the majors before he was traded to the Red Sox for Nick Yorke. He was on the move again in 2025 and enjoyed a breakout season for the Brewers, going 13-3 with a 3.32 ERA in 157.1 innings.

Infielder Jared Triolo has quietly tallied 5.7 WAR over three seasons in the majors, largely on the strength of his defense, and he won the utility player Gold Glove Award in 2024.

Grade: C

San Diego Padres

23 of 30
Kansas City Royals v San Diego Padres
CJ Abrams

First-Round Pick: SS CJ Abrams (1-6)

MLB Players: C Logan Driscoll (2-73), RHP Matt Brash (4-113)

Like so many other Padres prospects in recent years, CJ Abrams (to the Nationals for Juan Soto), Logan Driscoll (to the Padres for Emilio Pagán) and Matt Brash (to the Mariners for Taylor Williams) were all utilized as trade chips.

Abrams has developed into an everyday shortstop, while Brash leads all players from the 2019 draft class with 170 appearances in the majors, posting a 3.31 ERA and 12.1 K/9 with 54 holds as a key arm in the Seattle bullpen.

Grade: B

San Francisco Giants

24 of 30
San Francisco Giants v Athletics
Tyler Fitzgerald

First-Round Pick: OF Hunter Bishop (1-10)

MLB Players: OF Grant McCray (3-87), 2B Tyler Fitzgerald (4-116), RHP Caleb Kilian (8-236), RHP Trevor McDonald (11-326), RHP Cole Waites (18-536), RHP Taylor Rashi (23-686), RHP Nick Avila (26-776)

Hunter Bishop hit .342/.479/.748 with 22 home runs and 63 RBI during a breakout junior season at Arizona State, flashing five-tool potential, but he is the highest draft pick from the 2019 class that has yet to reach the majors. He posted a .722 OPS with a 29.8 percent strikeout rate at Triple-A in 2025.

Tyler Fitzgerald had a 2.8-WAR rookie season in 2024 before regressing significantly, while Trevor McDonald is one to watch going forward after he turned in a pair of quality starts against the Dodgers (6.0 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 3 K) and Rockies (7.0 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 0 ER, 10 K) in September.

Grade: D

Seattle Mariners

25 of 30

George Kirby

First-Round Pick: RHP George Kirby (1-20)

MLB Players: LHP Brandon Williamson (2-59), RHP Isaiah Campbell (2-76), RHP Levi Stoudt (3-97), 3B Austin Shenton (5-156), RHP Ty Adcock (8-246), OF Cade Marlowe (20-606)

The Mariners selected Logan Gilbert (No. 14 in 2018) and George Kirby (No. 20 in 2019) at the top of back-to-back draft classes, and they are now staples in the big league rotation.

Brandon Williamson and Levi Stoudt were traded to the Reds in separate deals as part of the packages to acquire Eugenio Suárez and Luis Castillo, and they have been the clear winners of both of those trades.

Grade: B

St. Louis Cardinals

26 of 30
St. Louis Cardinals v Colorado Rockies
Andre Pallante

First-Round Pick: LHP Zack Thompson (1-19)

MLB Players: RHP Andre Pallante (4-125), LHP Connor Thomas (5-155), C Pedro Pagés (6-185)

After posting a 2.40 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 130 strikeouts in 90 innings during his junior season at the University of Kentucky, left-hander Zack Thompson was the fifth pitcher taken in the 2019 draft. He logged a 4.50 ERA in 118 innings over three seasons in a swingman role out of the St. Louis bullpen, but a torn lat muscle sidelined him in 2025 and he is currently a free agent.

Andre Pallante has filled a variety of roles on the staff over the past four seasons, making 61 starts and 108 relief appearances, and posting a 4.32 ERA over 460 innings. He started 31 games in 2025, and should have an inside track to win a rotation spot this spring.

Grade: C

Greg Jones

First-Round Pick: SS Greg Jones (1-22), RHP JJ Goss (1-36), RHP Seth Johnson (1-40)

MLB Players: RHP Nathan Wiles (8-248), IF Nick Sogard (12-368), 2B Brett Wisely (15-458), LHP Joe La Sorsa (18-548), RHP Jayden Murray (23-698)

Greg Jones hit .341/.491/.543 with 26 extra-base hits and 42 steals in 63 games during his final season at UNC Wilmington, and impressed with an .874 OPS and 19 thefts in 48 games in his pro debut after signing. He was traded to the Rockies for left-hander Joe Rock prior to the 2024 season, and made his MLB debut with the White Sox in 2025.

Getting a combined negative-0.3 WAR from their three first-round picks, including JJ Goss never reaching the majors, is enough to make this an "F" draft class for an organization that relies heavily on the homegrown talent pipeline.

Grade: F

Texas Rangers

28 of 30
Texas Rangers v Cleveland Guardians
Josh Jung

First-Round Pick: 3B Josh Jung (1-8), 3B Davis Wendzel (1-41)

MLB Players: RHP Justin Slaten (3-86), IF/OF Cody Freeman (4-115), LHP Cody Bradford (6-175), RHP Zak Kent (9-265), RHP Marc Church (18-535), 1B Blaine Crim (19-565)

Viewed as one of the more polished bats in the 2019 draft following a standout career at Texas Tech, Josh Jung dealt with multiple injuries early in his pro career before finally breaking through in 2023 when he posted a 113 OPS+ with 23 home runs and 70 RBI while starting the All-Star Game as a rookie.

He has not matched that production in the years since while continuing to deal with nagging injuries, but he still sports a 105 OPS+ over 1,316 career plate appearances. Justin Slaten and Cody Bradford have both outperformed more than a few arms drafted ahead of them, with Slaten making good as a Rule 5 pick by the Red Sox.

Grade: B

Toronto Blue Jays

29 of 30
Boston Red Sox at Toronto Blue Jays
Alek Manoah

First-Round Pick: RHP Alek Manoah (1-11)

MLB Players: OF Will Robertson (4-117), OF Cam Eden (6-177), LHP Brandon Eisert (18-537), 1B Spencer Horwitz (24-717)

Alek Manoah looked like a budding ace for the Blue Jays when he followed up a strong rookie season by going 16-7 with a 2.24 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 180 strikeouts in 196.2 innings to finish third in 2022 AL Cy Young voting. However, the wheels fell off completely the following year and he was never able to regain his previous form before being designated for assignment in September.

Tip of the cap to the front office on the late-round find of Spencer Horwitz, who had a breakout season in 2024 before he was traded to Pittsburgh as part of the three-team deal to acquire Andrés Giménez.

Jackson Rutledge

First-Round Pick: RHP Jackson Rutledge (1-17)

MLB Players: RHP Orlando Ribalta (12-363), RHP Amos Willingham (17-513), IF/OF Jake Alu (24-723)

Nick Lodolo (No. 7) and Alek Manoah (No. 11) were the only pitchers drafted ahead of Jackson Rutledge in 2019. He spent that spring pitching at JUCO powerhouse San Jacinto College. The 6'8" right-hander never turned his impressive raw stuff into frontline production, but he did find a spot in the big league bullpen in 2025, making 63 appearances.

Orlando Ribalta (22 G, 7.03 ERA) was also part of the 2025 relief corps, and with two minor league options remaining he should serve as useful organizational depth once again in 2026.
